70 chevelle VIN vs Build Date
Hello, this is the VIN for a 70 chevelle 136370B132470 with a build date of 08D. IS this in line? Looking at a 70 LS5, numbers matching block, trans, vin and title. But the hidden vin on the firewall is different than the tag (rebody?) And the motor date is september vs the 08D trim tag build date. Trying to determine if the vin and trim tag match or not

Just because it says 08D, that's not a build date. That's a projected date. The NCRS report will tell you the finish date. Is it matching numbers or "Born With" drive train? Big difference these days. The Fisher body tag doesn't have the VIN. Does the hidden VIN match the one on the top of the dash? Any docs, pop, etc. Got any pictures of the stamping on the block?...Joe

The hidden vin DOES NOT match the VIN on the dash. I do have the block and trans stamp, but they wont post. PM me a cell number and i can send them

I have similar VIN's in my database and they are late December early January cars.

What’s the partial vin from the firewall? Also, check the rivets on the dash vin. Something ain’t right!

08d is way too early for a ls5 car. I may be wrong but the earliest ls5 car Ive ever heard of is 11d or 11c.
By any chance is this car from Alsip or St. Charles? |

I’ve spoken to this seller before, well over 6 months ago. He was trying to sell my friend the M22 and CRV rear out of it. The rear end is pitted to hell though, the date has completely rusted away. I believe him and his buddy had a legitimate LS5 that was too far gone and transplanted the drivetrain and VIN tag onto that body shell. They just didn't have enough sense to swap the LS5 trim tag and eliminate the stamp under the heater box before posting it up for sale everywhere. It’s great for parts, but good luck registering it. FYI, the block has been decked so only the partial VIN is faintly visible. The engine date & suffix are gone.

My Baltimore built 70 Chevelle has a partial VIN of 1084XX. It was ordered on August 14, 1969 and has an 09D build date. Can't see how the OP's VIN could be built four weeks earlier in the same plant.
