Known as, “Black Thunder” – the awesome 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Custom is the ultimate American Muscle car. It is a multiple Goodguys Builder’s Choice “Top 10” award winner. As the VIN number indicates it was built in Arlington, TX as a 1970 Chevelle 2-door Sport Coupe with an 8-cyclinder engine. It was built for its last owner by award winning builder Rich Mutert of Innovations Auto located in Foristell, MO. This second generation Chevelle underwent a no-expense spared rotisserie restoration that was completed to high show quality standards. The overall fit and finish of this car is in a different league then most 1970 Chevelles. The vision of the build was to keep the original factory appearance with moderate custom touches. The body is super straight with great panel fitment throughout. It was refinished in Black with white racing stripes which it wears well. The ocean deep black paint is in show quality condition throughout and was recently treated to a Gtechniq ceramic coat for protection. It was outfitted with all new tinted glass throughout. Everything on the exterior was replaced new such as the glass trim, windshield wiper arms, dual mirrors, front grille, head light bezels, front bumper, door handles, fender trim, tail light lenses, rear bumper and emblems. It’s equipped with new modern LED headlights with daytime running lights. The car rolls on custom Schott Velocity black and polished wheels that are 18” up front and 20” on the rear. The wheels are wrapped with Nitto NT555 G2 tires. The all new black interior is simple, clean and spacious. Everything in the interior was replaced new such as the headliner, sun visors, dash pad, dash panel and hardware, door panels and hardware, bucket seats, rear seat, pedals and carpeting. Some of the interior custom features include Dakota Digital gauges, chrome Flaming River tilt steering wheel with billet levers, Billet Specialties Formula D-shaped black steering wheel, under dash ignition, Vintage Air Conditioning control panel, Autosound modern head unit, Hurst Shifter with black shift ball, black door sill plates and matching carpeted floor mats. The trunk compartment was beautifully restored and refinished in the correct splatter trunk paint. The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. The firewall was smoothed and a Detroit Speed wiper motor was added. The entire engine bay was refinished in satin black. The cowl hood pivots on Eddie Motorsports aluminum hinges that operate easily. The car is powered by a GM Performance ZZ502 V8 crate engine that is rated with 502hp. The engine is fed through a Quick Fuel “Brawler” 750cfm carburetor. It’s equipped with a full front runner pulley system, Chevrolet orange valve covers and air cleaner. The engine is cooled by an aluminum radiator with dual SPAL electric fans and Undercover Innovations show panel. The engine breathes through stainless headers and a 3” dual exhaust system with Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. The engine is coupled to a T-56 6-speed manual transmission that shifts nicely. It’s equipped with factory power steering that is easy to operate. The painted undercarriage is highly detailed throughout. The chassis was painted black and a new fuel tank was added. The suspension system consists of a larger front sway bar, tubular upper and lower control arms, QA1 front coil overs, CPP 2” front drop spindles, 4-link rear setup with tubular arms and adjustable rear lowering spring top mounts. It’s equipped with a 4-wheel disc braking system including an 8” power booster, Wilwood master cylinder, CPP big brake kit with 13” front rotors, 12” rear rotors and red calipers. This car was recently serviced and detailed which is documented with an invoice. The awards are not included. From the MS CLASSIC CARS Collection.
