Restoration of YH rims
I'm restoring some YH rims and have a concern about the area where the sides of the tire meet the edge's of the steel rim. The area is pitted and I'm not sure if this will seal properly. If rims are pitted can't tire shops use a sealer for just this situation ?

Re: Restoration of YH rims
I just had a pair of tires put on a some Cragar wheels and one had some light pits. He told me that he will lay the sealer on thick then wipe it off afterwards.

Re: Restoration of YH rims
well the tire seals on the 15" bead diameter area, the outer lip isnt a sealing area. I may suggest some epoxy steel to smoth that area out should stick fine on a freshly blasted area then file/sand down and paint it

Re: Restoration of YH rims
you can sand blast them, then use duraglass or could lead them.

Re: Restoration of YH rims
I've used 3-M dura-mix panel bonding adhesive with good results. I just used a bondo spreader and spread it as evenly as possible on the pitted area. It actually flows out a bit to a smooth finish and gets hard as a rock. I didn't even sand it down afterward.

Re: Restoration of YH rims
I took the rims to the local tire shop and to my surprise they didn't see an issue, they did mention that they had a product that they will apply to help with the sealing. Thanks for all the suggestions.
