Talking The 10 Rules of Vintage Car Ownership

1. There's always something to fix, but not right now.

2. You should sell it while it's running great, but you won't because this experience is why you own the thing in the first place.

3. No, you aren't going to make any money off it.

4. One out of 10 parts will not arrive in time for the weekend.

5. That rattle.

6. There's always a better example for sale.

7. You can never have enough spares.

8. You're never going to use all those spares.

9. Rust is an enemy worth fighting to extinction.

10. That rattle.

11. Every new or re-finished part makes the other parts look worse so you feel compelled to spend money / time on those.
12. the moment you decide to spend on a full-blown resto, the "market" will drop 20%
13. There is nothing better (non-family) than owning one!

"you know the car is absolutely detailed to perfection, somebody yells "light'em up", you don't really want to, but you drop the clutch and melt the tires anyway, deal with the mess later..."

11. You will lose your patience, sanity, and as my grandfather puts it "your religion" (his way of saying you're gonna swear up a storm) when they break, or when you work on them.

15). The Nicer it is... The harder people look to find a flaw and make sure to point it out to you.

While my smokey old patina 68 Acadian gets untold compliments and thumbs ups.

Once I start searching for a particular model, the prices rise. Soon after I pay dearly for it, the prices plummet...

Oh well, I don't buy them to flip, but the price of good used parts just keeps going up as the resto drags on. As of now, I need to live to 120, to have any chance of getting them all "done".

16.You think you have arrived at perfection, and your best friend nit picks.
17. You realize you made a restoration mistake 5 years later.
