Default Looking for info on Z-Motors in Valley Stream, NY

Im looking for information regarding Z Motors in Valley Stream, NY. They were located at 365 Merrick Rd where ABC Chrysler resides today. Telephone number was LO1-9600. They specialized in used high performance cars. They seemed to be a big player in the muscle car market back then, yet very little information exists.

Anyone know anything about this place? pictures? names of ex employees?

Thanks!

Default Z Motors

I worked across the street from Z Motors at McVeigh Chevrolet in 1964-65. My '64 Impala SS convertible ended up on the front line of their lot when I sold it. They did specialize in custom and performance cars at the time.

A guy named Dick Young ran a '67 Camaro in SCCA Trans-Am road racing with sponsorship from Z Motors in 1969. The next year he had sponsorship from McVeigh Chevrolet. The car ran at Bridgehampton and Watkins Glen which are both New York tracks.

Default Z Motors

Loads of old original ads in the archived newspapers. Seems they were also a Studebaker Dealership. Anything in particular you are looking for?

I used to work for z-motors. They used to hire high school kids with licenses to pick up cars through out Long Island. We often picked up hot rods and supped up cars. I think Frank Zuatta was the owner. He also had an Avante Dealership.

Why is the front bumper mounted upside down?

'

Could airflow be increased into rad or bumper opening angle somehow offer improvement?
One simple reason could be so Vehicle was more quickly identifiable coming into pits by crew so they're ready for action?
Great pics!
