Just curious. Where did you get a break down of 4-speeds vs. automatics?

I think he meant to say "396" and not 395, so it wasn't a suggestion that 395 L78s were automatics.

Daniel Carrs 1968-1972 Chevrolet A Body Production Totals.

Chevelle Coupe
1582 Manual
395 Automatic

This may be incorrect. Just working off of his numbers.

That's just a guesstimate by Dan Carr, and not actual.
Extrapolation does not work when talking about actual optioned vehicles produced. There are just too many variables to consider.
They made 2144 1970 L-78 coupe & cvt. Chevelles & Elcaminos,and that does NOT include the 18 w/Al.head L-89 option.
Although the ratio for Auto. vs. M/T is low,no one knows for certain.

Rick,

Are there any known L89 70's?

The Gold was at last years LS6 display and is owned by Brian D. It is real and has real paperwork. The owner of the original selling dealer was located a few years ago along with original paperwork. Awesome car.

----And the back story was even more unbelieveable. The kid who ordered the car thought he was ordering aluminum valve covers. When the car came in he was really irritated that it was ordered wrong. I think the story board said that it was almost to the point of refusing the car. Am I right remembering that the dealer went out and got some aluminum valve-covers for him??? Even if wrong it made for a great story!!!.........Bill S

That is pretty wild. Altho, I might be upset too, paying the L89 option price for "aluminum valve covers"!!!!
