Default SPS 327 rod bolts 11/32 nds

Good morning gentlemen.

Is the SPS company still in existence or was it bought out? Reason I am asking is, as I was going through my old inventory, I noticed that I had bought the above rod bolts and had them installed on me newly purchased at the time GM small journal 1967 connecting rods. Had a 48 Anglia at the time, but never installed the fresh engine setup including TRW 2211 AF 060 12:5 cr slugs. SPS rod bolts; good / bad / or ugly?

More to this story up n coming especially if you are a reputable 67 Z28 Camaro engine owner.

Good grief, time flies eh boys!??!

Thanks!!
Ted in frigging cold Montreal

Ted,

I worked there for 36 years...still going but has been bought out after it hit 100 years in 2003. Warren Buffet's company owns it now.

I have the SPS rod bolts in my 302 and still going. At the time, they were the best you could get as they were made..(by me and others)by an Aerospace company. They have been fazed out by ARP and others. I did my best to get them, to keep making them but they said there was no money to be made? Aerospace bolts are what keeps them going. I have made all kinds of bolts over the years. I would still use them...I have a set or two laying around and some big block ones as well. Mr. Gasket use to sell for us. I have since left the company.

I say use them if you have them installed now. If you look in some of the old Catalogs or even Motion catalogs...you will see them in there.

Dave

Thanks Dave for the information. I was digging in my lists last night and came upon a set of 1967 Z28 Camaro rods with the TRW slugs still attached. We put 3 - 4 runs on the above in an old 75 Firebird Esprit. Number 3 main saddle cracked on me and was unfixable. I shelved whatever I could from the 327 + 060 and alas last night I found the info and the rods n pistons. The rods have a light brown designation on them along with the SPS bolts.
Connecting rods are for 67 Z28 302 engines. They were bought new back in 73 or 74
under GM part number 3927145 here in Montreal. 3 or 4 runs at low 6000 rpms.
Encore thanks Dave! I appreciate it!!

Got some ole speed shop catalogues, i.e. the ones with the 3 ring binder holes fron back in the 60s - 70s and will look up info on the small block chebbys' SPS rod bolts. Also bought a set of blue tip pushrods - over the counter angle plug heads and a 3838495 crank at the same time from a Chevy dealer in East end Montreal. Crank has since disappeared thanks to an old buddy. Heads are now on a 355 c.i. with 395 h.p. Engine is built along the lines of a 1970 350 c.i. 370 hp LT-1 with 11:1 cr.
Going to put the 67 Z28 rods up for sale..

We used a lot of the SPS rod bolts back in the 70,s/80,s and sold/ packaged by Mr Gasket as noted by Dave. I had a 283+060 (292 ) with 11/32 bolts which we regularly buzzed 9,500 rpm with a Manley type piston back in the day, Never had a failure and they always torque instantly to spec. I still have a set in a BJ 350 Z set of rods. Excellent bolt IMO.
