Default 50 years ago -- as it happened.

Apollo 11.

Kranz, -- Flight: GO!, Surgeon: GO! GNC: GO!, EECOM: GO!,
CAPCOM We are GO for Landing!

Having an interest in history and how research is performed it amazes me that I still meet car collectors--TODAY-- people who have otherwise very successful lives and are wealthy who will also openly deny that we ever landed on the moon.

On the heels of Kubrick's 1968 movie "2001 a space odyssey" many people of the time were amazed by the hyper realistic special effects that the movie industry could create at the time - a year before the landing.

After studying this phenomenon I believe much of the blame goes to the media and TV coverage of the mission where we as a people were treated to cinematic and info/entertainment style coverage during the entire mission by the major networks where we were treated to talking heads and commercials.

Now the counterpoint presented is that the people of this time were uneducated and would find all of the technical detail of the mission overwhelming, and would cause confusion and disinterest in what still is the greatest technical achievement in the history of the human race.

So lets see what really happened then and in real time.

First the total Geek site:

https://apolloinrealtime.org/11/

Turn your speakers up and pay attention to the instructions. Full screen is recommended. This is the entire flight. All the coms including Air to ground loop and the Flight director's loop and associated telemetry.

This is the non-geek site:

https://www.firstmenonthemoon.com/

This site covers the same kind of information but focuses on the landing.
medical telemetry is easy to find with the heart symbol showing Armstrong's heart as it jumps to 150 beats at the point of landing.

Finally don't hate me for you burning a major portion of your day screwing around on these sites... You have been warned LOL.
