1969 L78 Nova question
Would an October 68 built L78 Nova have the 68 style alternator mounting location (drivers side) or would it be the passenger side? Also, would there be a difference in the fan shroud?
Thanks, Mike

Re: 1969 L78 Nova question
67/68 Camaro and 68 Nova BB have the same radiator shroud.(Alternator on drivers side)
69 Camaro and 69/70 BB Nova radiator shroud are the same. (Alternator on passenger side) Kurt |

Re: 1969 L78 Nova question
If it is a 1969 car it would be set up as such as far as those 2 items go.. I also have never seen the 68 style alternator/shroud set up on a 69...

Re: 1969 L78 Nova question
I had a very early L.A. built 1969 big block Camaro with a later Corvette 454 in it when I bought it. The car had the early style short water pump, alt. brackets and pullyes with the later style fan shroud. I converted everything to the later style brackets thinking that someone used the wrong set up with the 454 engine change. I ended up changing the original looking engine wiring harness because the alt wires were on the wrong side. The car also had the 68 style 4 piston brake calipers.

Thanks, Mike [/ QUOTE ] Mike, If I may...... are you questioning the alternator location because the car has an Oct 68 build date? The date specified is actually an early build 69 model - so 69 model year particulars would rule here..... My '69 big block Camaro is also an Oct 68 build, so it is a sister car to yours ( of sorts ). Other than some early build oddities (engine frame mounts, 2-piece rotors, etc.) it is like any other 1969 big block Camaro. Nuch

Re: 1969 L78 Nova question
My 1969 Z/28 and my 1969 SS 350 nova are both November of 1968 builds. Both are on the passenger side. I never saw a 1969 Chevy with a drivers side alternator. At least I don't remember seeing one.

I was looking at a car that is an October 68 build and it had the alt. mounted on the drivers side similar to the 68 style. I wasn't sure if the switch over happened at the beginning of the 69 model year or if there was a transition period. Sounds like all 69's had passenger side alternator mounting. Thanks, Mike |
