'79 - 81 Camaros

Was it Bill Thomas that built a special 79 to 81 Camaro? I remember seeing an article about special "orange" '79 to '81 Camaros. I thought it was Bill Thomas that built the cars but I could be wrong. Does anybody remember the article or who built the cars. The article showed all of the cars at a track.
