Muncie Speedometer Cable Clips
My clips are all beat up. Anyone have a good original clip or two?
Thanks, Bill |

I've seen them for $100 or more when you can find them. FWIW, heartbeat now sells an exact copy and they are formed just like the originals.

I don't believe that the HBC clip is correct. No one makes a correct repop one.
There should be "wings" on the outside, so that when you put the holding legs into the hole, you can squeeze the wings with a pair of pliers and it spreads out the legs to make it stay put. The HBC clip has legs, but no wings. On the HBC repro (and every other repo available) you have to have a second pair of hands inside the car to spread out the legs. They may be functional, but are not correct. Check out post #33 in this thread. http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=9775.30 Although the pic shows one that was bead blasted and zinc plated. I am not sure of the correct plating. IIRC, I have one correct on on my car and on repop one.

Thanks guys. I think I can make this a happy ending if I can get the one rounded out again without breaking it.

Go slow and use a "form" to apply even pressure to avoid "work hardening" it and you should be OK. This metal is very soft (and not very strong)which is how it got the way it is so easily.

The HBC ones are the same as everyone offers...
They also have to be "worked" in order to make them look correct! To "fix" the clip took a good deal of work, making a little anvil and die and then filing using a multitude of needle files to fix errors. First photo from left to right... REPRO - ORIGINAL - Modified repro.
