Great thread as I have a pair of M/T-SS that I want to get recoated. For any of the processes mentioned does the inside get adequately coated as well as the outside...obviously just spraying VHT from the can will only coat the outside.

I'm not sure you need the same type of protection on the inside as the outer. Plenty of carbon on pistons and headers/ manifolds.

I can't recall the exact process that new image powder coat uses but ceramic coating on the inside as well as the outside of the headers sounds familiar as reducing temps to the outside is the goal.

I talked to Jim Kolbrick from New Image today...he didn't say anything about the inside...basically told me they spray a silver ceramic on the outside cure it.....and then i believe they etch them afterwards in a cabinet ...(not sure what type of media) ...and then spray the VHT and bake it..he says the ceramic holds the heat in and the VHT colors it..claims to have good luck..hope i got that process right....seems like a nice guy....Mockingbird812....did you get yours done in Orange???????...anybody had theirs done in orange,.. from New image and how's it holding up???????

I would have thought the headers would rust from the inside out due to the water vapor bi-product of combustion...does anyone coat the inside of their headers?...mine are originals and would like to keep them around as long as possible.

I have not had my headers done yet (altho I plan to use these guys). Grady I believe has had them done this way.

Here are what my Dad's headers look like. They are Hooker's bough at Shaw's Speed Shop cira 1973ish. So at least 40 years old and holding up just fine!

Nice looking headers. What process was used on them?

Wish I could tell you more about the process. I know it was a silver ceramic base 1st, then a white top coat.
