Default 70-72 SS Chevelle Stripes

I'm hoping someone here can clear this up for me. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The way I understand it, if a 70-72 SS chevelle has the factory hood pins then it would have had hood and deck stripes. Correct?? My thought is the hood pins were part of the stripe option. Doesn't matter if it's the dome hood or cowl induction.

1970: D88 stripes & hood pins came standard with the ZL2 cowl induction option. The stripes were an option on non-ZL2 cars, but hood pins were not. If you ordered ZL2 but deleted the stripes, you still got the hood pins. Standard SS got a domed hood without stripes or pins.

1971-72: All SS hoods, whether standard domed or ZL2 received hood pins. It was part of the SS equipment with or without stripe option. ZL2 option still gave you D88 stripes unless you opted to delete them.

One more thing worth mentioning... the D88 hood & deck stripe option was not exclusive to the SS optioned cars, it was also an available option on 1970-72 flat hood Malibus. There are quite a few documented examples out there.

I had one. Fairly rare. It was a small block with a 4-speed in a regular Malibu. Red car, black stripes, black interior.

Hi Dave, that’s awesome, do you have any pics of it?
