Default '70 Camaro SS396, #s L-78, Daytona Yellow, Docs, Gorgeous.

Really nice car and RARE...seems very fairly priced at a few bucks shy of $80k.

Wow, a cool car and with M-20 and 3.55 gears that's an ideal combination. I wonder why they did not put back on all the RS exterior trim when it was restored? I like it, but agree some different wheels would liven it up a bit. With only 600 made and a special color, I think this is one rare car.

Interesting that all the paperwork describes an M20 as "close ratio"...

in '70, M20 was the call out code for a manual 4 spd, didn't designate specific 4spd/Muncie to be installed

3.55 was a performance ratio?

Not sure if the window stickers varied between 1970 Chevy models...but our black 70 L78 Nova window sticker shows M21 and the close ratio description. The Fisher Build Sheet [small one] indicates M20 to let the boys know they needed to cut a hole in floor for the shifter.

There are other differences too regarding pricing for the engine and trans...seems to me the L78 would be the same price for any model it was available in. Maybe the price changed during the model year ??

As for the 'performance axle' call out...my understanding has always been the 3.55 gear was the default ratio for the L78 in 1970 and perhaps before.

Interested to hear what other info folks have....

The window sticker shows the correct zone and dealer for Steakley Chevrolet in Temple. The shipping report would confirm that, also.

The BAT listing shows no paperwork at all except for a small fragment of the tank sticker which doesn't show the engine. I wonder how it now has all of the Steakley paperwork???

Here is a different 1970 L-78 also from BAT. This one has "SS" wheels and it sure looks a lot better than the correct factory wheels.
