Default 1970 L78 Nova 5 blade fan sold on e-bay WOW!!

1969 69 1970 70 SS396 NOVA L78 ENGINE FAN RARE!!! Item number: 170182172921

I was watching this fan on e-bay and it sold with a buy it now price of $719.22.. Kinda high priced do you guys think??? It was pretty rusty also and needed a good blasting and re-painting..

I'm still looking for an original one but this one was just a little out of my price range... The attachment picture is not the fan that was sold on e-bay but is an original fan..

Anybody educate US as to if and why ALL the 70 L-78 Camaros (1st built in Jan 70') had the 772 fan with clutch.....and some of the L-78 Nova's had the above non clutch fan set-up.

I'm also LOOKING for evidence that ALL the 70 L-78 Camaros had the left hand smog tube that went up and over the valve cover and NOT the 1969 Hockey Stick style going around front of V.C.

There are NO available original as built 70 L-78 Camaro pics available. I want to site Cumby's 70 L-78 Chevelle as my examnple.

Thanks,

Chuck, the fan issue puzzles me.. The thing with the smog tubes, and I think this is possibly the reason, is that with the camaros and novas that had the original dual snorkel air cleaner set ups, I think they utilized the non-"hockey stick style" arm on the smog tube possibly for clearance reasons with the snorkel. I would think that the "hockey style" tube would interfere with the snorkel.. But I do not know for certain just a guess ...

The pictures seem to clarify the clearance reason/issue.. Looks like the "hockey style" tube would definately interfere with the snorkel on the drivers side...

Gentlemen, the non-clutch 5 blade fan was used on the Nova because the clutch fan would not fit in the space available. In 1968 the first BB Novas used the clutch fan setup like the Camaro...the short water pump allowed enough room for clearance. These stock 5 blade fans make an awful noise thats why so many of them were canned back in the day and replaced with a flex fan....as for the smog tubes...my understanding is the transition from in front to over the valve cover took place in the fall of 69...may have something to do with the low profile intake...anyway I have discussed it with Bill Hodel and he can't say for sure the exact date of transition...for a fall 69 built car it's a toss up...
