OK to rebody a car in OK

First off, I don't take credit for this one. I did have some input early on, and again right before the gov. signed it, but I was not part of the drafting team. I would have done it a little differently, but really, I believe this is a good step forward.

As of Nov. 1, 2011, it will be officially OK to rebody a car in Oklahoma. So, now you can buy a complete dynacorn (or other aftermarket) body and rebody any car you want. Catch is it will be assigned a new state issued vin and the new title will reflect that it is a rebody. You cannot use the original vin.

Just to be clear, you still cannot swap a vin from one car to another and call it a rebody. Whether you like the dynacorn bodies or not, I really believe this is a good measure, as the car will really be identified on the title as what it really is. After all, how many times have you heard a seller say "it is what it is" as a means to dodge the question.

For those interested in reading the bill as signed by Gov. Fallin, here is a link. It will take a while to navigate because it is incorpopated in old law, but the new language is underscored. All the numerical paragraph numbers after 27 are underscored, because they were each moved up a notch.

I think this is good legislation to protect buyers from getting ripped off by the old proverbial "all original, numbers match" sellers....

How would a Dynacorn body with a state issued vin be called a rebody? That is how kit cars are done....and they arrrrr not rebodys.

I looked up re-body in Websters and I think we need to hire a lawyer.

My thoughts as well... I don't get it. If you have an original car and VIN... regardless of it's condition... why would you even put it in the mix if you're building a car with a Dynacorn body and can't use that VIN? Are you saying you surrender the original VIN tag and then get a state issued VIN? In that case just call it a kit car and get a state issued VIN. Am I missing something?
