Default could use some chicagoland help...

hey folks, I recently took my mom in, as she just had a stroke and I chose not to put her into extended care. Its been a life changing experience for me taking care of her, but I signed up for this long ago, knowing it was coming some day. She took care of me, I am returning the favor.

The big issue for me, is I have to sell her house, and I have 2 backyard buddy car lifts in her garage with 4 of my cars. I dont want to show the house with strangers peaking in on my pride and joys in there.

If anyone has any experience dealing with moving a car lift in the chicago land (st charles) area, let me know. I hate to have them disassembled (could they fit on a flat bed trailer?), but maybe that is how it will go. Anyone willing to help, I could use the help. I have a new garage 5 miles down the road ready to go for them, but was not ready yet.

Bob, if i wasnt so far away id come and help for sure. When I bought mine I moved it in one peice with my rollback tow truck. I used oil dry on the shop floor for it to slid on lol, used the wench and oil dry again to get it on the rollback. Sounds odd but it worked,we moved it 10 miles like this. Also had 5 decent size guys helping out. Sorry to hear about ur Mother. Good luck

I use to bring 4 post lifts to shows. I brought a BYB to a show 1 time with a 6x8 single axle utility trailer. I'llhave to dig for pics.

Basically I had a few boards across the top rail of the trailer, then lowered the lift down. Used ratchet straps to lift the legs the rest of the way up (with down valve open). Fewmore straps to secure the lift. Drove 300 miles with it. No issue.

thanks for all the offers of help and advice guys. I am working on seeing first if the car lifts can be tilted enough to clear the door header. If that works out, then I stand a chance of not dis-assembling!
Its good to know I can move one of these on a trailer!

where to put the cars in the mean-time is not fun. I thought I was past squessing 3~4 cars into a 2 car garage, but I guess not.

Although I can't lift a lot of weight, I can help tow the lifts if you can arrange for a trailer. I'm in Naperville.

once I get the cars relocated this weekend (hopefully), I plan to see if I can tilt the lifts using a car jack next week on my own, to see if they will clear the header. Only got to come down 8 inches, and it looks like I can lift the far end about 3 ft or so up towards the ceiling. really dont want to take these things apart!

I like your optomism, but I've not been sucessful tilting them. It might be worth calling byb to get a number from a local installer.

Breaking them down is bull work!
