I slide a thin object down the lh side (driver)of the handle. Last time I used a pairing knife out of the kitchen drawer ( wife not too happy, but what can I say?). Try to go straight down the middle of that lh slot between the handle and thin stainless piece. You may want to use a lubricant (WD-40 or ?) & you may have to wiggle the blade or feeler or whatever you use back and forth. The blade will only go about 3/4 in. down and stop. Turn the shifter over upside down or to where you can take a long punch and strike the bottom of the shifter handle driving it out the top. A vice is handy also.

OK. I've got a shifter that is similar to that and couldn't figure out how to get it out.

You take a feeler Gage and push it down between the handle and shifter till it releases it

I use a pair of starter shims to remove the handle. It does look like a 4177 arm, which is indeed a Lemans / GTO arm - only for bench seats though.... While I've seen plenty of 4177 arms for sale over the last few years for very high prices, I don't know of any that have actually sold for those prices - I'm pretty sure us Deuce guys have bought/stashed/installed 4177's into the majority of Deuces that needed them! We've been buying 4177's on the sly and on the cheap since '96 or so

i steal them every time i can..most have no idea what they are..i love the whole romance about bench seat 4 speed cars...i prob have a half dozen sitting around all the time..
people that put them on ebay are kinda hoping someone just has to have one.. last 3 i sold where in the 250+ area with no rods or levers...i have sold a couple for 450 but they looked near NOS with almost perfect chrome..truth is, they are worth more to Pontiac guys than Duece owners..(my opinion) ive never sold one to a Nova guy..the 68-9 GTO guys are always looking for one it seems..never had a prob selling any ive offered...

You are probably correct in that the Pontiac guys want them more now, most of the Deuces that want one - have one by now....

I use 2 lengths of 1-1/2" wide wide steel banding/strapping one down each side of the handle and pull straight out.
