Default Delco battery

Last night I went to a local cruz with my 68 Camaro
Parked the car and lifted the hood and spent 3 hours at the show
I then closed the hood and then tried to started the car,
as soon as I turned the ignition key the battery exploded. It was witnessed by many people. The battery was about 1/12 years old.
It was properly installed, the alternator is charging properly.
I quickly opened the hood and doused the enjine compartment with water and Baking soda mix. I also took it to a spray car wash and pressure washed the area. There was no noticeable damage to the paint.
Whyle I was busy fixing the problem I had lots of help
form great car guys. One person drove me to his home lent me another battery and I got home no problem.
It just so happened that a GM rep was there and told me that GM was having a lot of problems with the Delco battery
and that they would be responsible for the damage. He gave me
a number to call to report this incidend.Have anybody else
had a problem with Delco car Batteries.

WE have been having problems with the AC/Delco truck batteries. 3 get ordered and have to be returned since they wont hold a charge. Another 3 delivered and guess what the new ones were bad as well. Needless to say we again had them picked up and 3 more which again were bad. Out of 9 batteries all were bad when tested and not from just one batch number. This was about 3 months ago

Where are these made now? It changed a few years ago. I think they were under/part of Delphi and produced in Canada but that was sold off, right? ..are they from Mexico now? .. or where they sold to a joint in Canada? aaaah I forgot

According to our local Delco parts warehouse, the Delco batteries they sell are made either in the USA or China. Wouldn't be suprised to find out they are made in other countrys also.

Almost exactly one year ago the original battery in my 2002 Tahoe was getting weak. Went to a local shop and bought a new one, since I have always had good luck with Delco in the past. Brought it home, put it in the Tahoe, and - nothing. Did the normal due diligence thinking I had goofed up somewhere, and found nothing wrong. Put the old battery back in and it started up fine. Took the new one back to the shop where I bought it. They did a load test on it and found it defective. Pulled two more from their stock and found them defective too. Finally got a functioning one on the fourth try, and it's been fine since.

I don't think Delco makes 99% of what they sell any more...how times have changed!

I've gone to running Interstate batteries in our daily drivers (good luck so far), and our old cars run the cheapest, lightest batteries we can buy with a topper thrown on for camoflauge...!

At Vettefest, Darren and I were swapping out my modern Delco
battery for my R89 and noticed it was leaking. Darren helped me clean it up and after the show, I took it back to my neighbor's shop who had installed it. He had his guys remove it, neutralize the area, do a quicky repaint of the tray and replace the Delco.......for nothing.
I have a few others I need to keep an eye on...

Yep, good luck with Interstate here too. And sad as it seems, I've had good luck with Everstart from WallyWorld. Never an incident with either of these.

The Delco in my daughter's '06 Grand Prix failed after just a few months. The dealer replaced it at no charge and SO FAR, no more trouble. Same deal in her '02 Grand Am. Hmmmmm
