The ZR-1 Corvette, and a multitude of tuner cars with 700+ horsepower, barely hit 11's (or perhaps a 10 second pass with perfect conditions, traction, and a pro driver), and the 1000 hp Bugatti Veyron can crack a low 10-second et....but 8's? The Mustang would need 1000+ horsepower (probably a turbo, or a supercharger and a heck of a lot of nitrous), and a chassis setup for drag racing. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to see evidence of an 8-second Mustang straight from-the-factory, I'm just looking for a link to read about them... </div></div> Nah, just the blower will do it. John Mihovetz over at Accufab recently cracked 2600 horsepower with a set of factory "c" heads and a single turbo. The tight bore spacing on these engines precludes them from being powerhouses in n/a form, but they respond to boost like no other engine. But a lot of it is in the suspension. I've seen cars with 550 rwhp run 9s, and cars with 1200 rwhp struggle to go 10s.

Re: 8 second race car built on the regular assm. line
Oh yeah, I can see where you're coming from about the 8-second time slips so I'll attempt to clarify a bit. Anybody that has done serious drag racing knows how brutal & unforgiving the dragstrip timers can be! People that can afford these $100,000 Cobra Jet Mustangs that think that they're gonna go to their local Dragstrip Test 'n Tune session on the immediate Wednesday night after picking up their CJ Mustang and impress their buddies with a string of 8-second time slips is living on Fantasy Island. But that being said......the basics are here and these cars really are capable of high-8's BUT only when set-up for their intended NHRA Stock Eliminator trim with a competent driver.

Re: 8 second race car built on the regular assm. l
I'm not getting into brand bashing because, well, because I like most everything American, regardless of brand or model year. And because I'm not 5. What next, a chorus of "neener, neener, neener"?

What does that even mean? If you're trying to make a point, you're failing miserably. 8 second Mustangs are a dime a dozen these days.
