Default What were they thinking?

Has anybody replaced convertible top weatherstripping on a 1968-1972 A-body GM.I'm working on a 1968 Chevelle and the original wthrsg. is toast. While I've had good luck with METRO door and roofrail wthrsg. their conv. top kit is NOWHERE #@&*%$ing close to the original. After spending 20 hours trying to align the glass with absolutly NO #@&*$ luck, I dug out the originals and couldn't believe what I saw.The profile on the METRO kit isn't even close.WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?Did they even look at an original before they attempted to reproduce this item? The irony is the instructions state"YOU ARE ABOUT TO INSTALL A QUALITY REPRODUCTION METRO PART ENJOY"I've yet to experience the enjoyment aspect of this installation. Does somebody make a REASONABLE FACSIMILE for conv.weatherstripping.I'm stumped.Unfortunatly I can't print what I REALLY THINK OF THIS REPRO PIECE OF S#*T part.

Steele products makes great weatherstripping for coupe doors. You might give them a try

I have restored a few "A" body converts and have ordered my weather strip kits from Fusick automotive in CT. They are primairly an Olds supplier. They are very fussy about who they choose as supliers. The kits from them are Soft Seal. I have noticed ,comparing reproduction WS to s few NOS pieces I have had that repro stuff is a little harder than OEM. Additionally the center side pieces are about 1/8 inch longer than NOS and have to be positioned just right otherwise they will bind against the rear side strip and not allow a good seal against the glass. as far as final fit and allignment is concerned, get your top and WS all installed and alligned and then deal with the glass.
