Default Vintage Pic

We moved recently and as we are unpacking, I've found a couple boxes of old pictures. This group seems to like to old school/vintage pics and stories, so I thought I'd share this one.

It's a picture of my dad's 69 SS 396/375 on the dealer lot. He ordered it while he was still overseas in Vietnam. He wanted to wait to pick it up until he got home, but the dealer called his parents and asked if they could pick it up early as it was becoming a distraction with a lot of people asking to buy it. My Grandpa, Grandma, and Uncle drove to pick it up. My uncle told me my grandpa was going to drive the camaro back and my uncle would drive their car back with my grandma. Grandpa made it about 6 blocks, pulled over, and told my uncle to drive it. "Piece of junk doesn't idle, runs like crap, won't turn, and looks like a John Deere tractor!"

This is the only one I've found so far, but I know there are a handful of others. If there is interest I'll post em as they get discovered during unpacking.

Yes he still has it. It's like his first born child. It's only got 26,000 miles on it. He drag raced it with a 427 in A Stock and ET until about 1980. Luckily, he kept just about everything - which is downstairs in the basement. It's got about a dozen door dings from the double stall garage and us kids. The rear fenderlips were rolled under as well, but other than that it still wears its original paint, interior, etc.

I know there are about 5-6 more dealer photos and a few somebody took of it in action at Minnesota Dragways, if I remember right.

Dan,
I have several hundred photos of Interstate/Minnesota Dragways and Northstar Dragways and will look and see if I have any of this car.

You are very likely to have some then. He was at both almost every weekend until they closed up. I was too young to remember much, but he mentioned that the track schedules were a little different - so on a weekend they could hit both of them. Something like one had eliminations earlier and they could get down to the other track in time.

If you find some, that would be great. He'd love it if I showed up with some old track pics. He has very fond memories of both those tracks. The ashtray still has a bunch of old timecards sitting in it.

The nhra number on the windows was 5296 and I remember that the headlamps were painted green back then as well.

Sorry guys, I went through all the photos and only had a few more recent shots. The rest of the old photos must be down at my dad's. That is where I always thought they were - not sure how the one oddball ended up in my collection. The next time I go down there I'll scan them and put them up.

Nothing so far after going through about 2 hours of CD's. I do have more and will continue to check as time allows. I also sent you a PM.

Is that crazy or what....a dealer complaining about people being attracted onto their lot and wanting to buy a car!

Super picture, hope you find more very soon!
