All the photos with the "D-A" tower are the '62 Nationals at Indy. So many famous cars all together. Those photos are GOLD!

Great pictures, thanks for sharing! Verne Frantz alerted me to them ... they are Indy NHRA nationals 1962. Hayden Proffitt, Dyno Don Nicholson in his whete Bel Air. Higher res scans may help ID the other cars.

Hubert Platt in the yellow Nally-Nicholson car, could be Arlen Vanke in the Pontiac, the Zintmaster Impala on the far side, unsure about the Plymouth and the Bel Air next to it ... the #739 Impala may be Bill Flynn who ran the Yankee Peddler Mopars later on.

Al Eckstrand in the Dodge, possibly the Impala might be Ronnie Sox but I can't be sure of that unless I see a higher resolution (300dpi) scan. The Biscayne launching on the right looks like, but not 100% sure, Butch Leal.

I see from a previous photo that the dark Impala is The Bader Chevrolet car, not Ronnie Sox. Bader Chevrolet ran a Z-11 Chevy in '63 as I recall ... and a Z-11 powered Chevelle after that.

Thanks for the Great info Joel about 62 Indy Nationals. Not sure how to scan better resolution (nephew scanned these for me) but in looking at the pics closer under closer magnification their not any better. Here's pics of all the pictures laid out. Pretty easy to sort them out by photographic processing. Ironically the 62 Indy pics are the biggest stack (3x5's).

Simple solution.....left side assembly line plant employee made the easy mistake of reading the model number, installed the left side rocker spear and failed to read that this Chevelle was receiving RPO Z25. I bet this mistake was made a few times. Especially with the early built car, such as this Chevelle. Obviously no one caught this mistake and she rolled out the assembly plant. A Great Chevelle that certainly got its nickname early in life.....I would have named her "The Southpaw Spear"

1971 Rod Shop Hemi Charger going to a new home approx 1979. A friend of mine in HS dad owned this car from 1979 to 2006 or so when it was sold to a collector in Florida.

This shot shows it leaving Bob Bond's Rod Shop who bought it from Columbus Ohio Rod Ship in 1972 or 1973 and going to my friends house.

From what I'm told by the original owner, those pictures are from the first week he owned the car.

----Rick,,,The tires appear to be possibly a size or two bigger than an "F". Maybe that's why the change, but they are definetly Daytons......Bill S

----I should add that I cant quite see the fronts as clearly as the rears, so maybe only the rears were sized up. Being a 375 it would certainly be necessary.

Rixls6

I realize they are Daytons, but my contention is that they were put on when the car was new, as the original owner did not change them the first week of ownership, but I'll ask him again.

Okey Dokey here goes a few observations before work:
The '69 Chevelle could've had a tire change at the dealership before it ever left the dealership. We used to do it all the time. The finance manager would upsell tires and compare them to "builder grade" carpet. The take-offs would then be sold (or stolen) to employees, etc. As a kid, my cars ALWAYS had brand new take-offs and I went through them quickly. Heck, a teenage gearhead with an unlimited supply of free tires? What could be better?
The "Charlie Jacobs" Chevelle has been substantially modified as it looks to be a leaf spring rear suspension with an altered wheelbase.
The "Tire Town Rat" (I'm darn near positive, unless there were two) is the Yellow ZL-1 that was found and owned by Bill Porterfield. If my memory is working, that was a double COPO from Berger, and the #3 ZL-1.

Love the last two pics. Some of the '60s-'70s "panel" paint jobs are really cool and this one "ain't bad"!
The "Motion" Camaro was bad-a$$.....not the prettiest, but one tough car. Funny thing back then, not all race cars were aesthetically pleasing. Some looked good up close, some looked good from the stands, some didn't look good at all.

The #3 ZL1 Camaro was never a race car. It remains unrestored and still has much of its original paint.

Not sure if this fits in this thread but here's a pic that one of my friends posted on facebook. This was his '58 Pontiac and his buddy's day 2 '70 Chevelle SS 454. He didn't know if it was an LS5 or LS6, just that it was fast as hell! lol

William, you are right again, sir. My memory wasn't 100% correct. Seems the #3 was raced a little by some "locals" and powered by a SBC. I think it had a amateurish black stripe that Porterfield removed.

The 442 Rags do look like twins also a lot like Smothers Brothers Berejik cars?
Others please add/correct but left row going back looks like a 55 Chevy?, 62 Dodge, 69 Camaro, 70?Nova, 63 Dodge Drag'n Wagon?, 66 Biscayne, 69 Chevelle Post?, 63 Plymouth.
Right row, 63 Stude?, 69 442 Rag, 61 Poncho Wagon, 69 Rustang, 69 Firebird, 66 Comet, 68?Nova, 69 442 Rag.

I was looking at the 1969 US Nationals photo. No roll bars that I can see. The two Oldsmobiles both appear to be 442 models with the "Smothers Brothers Racing Team" colors. Looks like a Land of NED (Div.1) wagon with the striped roof. Class racing was ultra-competitive and took more than money to win. Those Musser Brothers are still around and have their '57 alive and kicking! Lotsa cool stuff on the '68. Rotonda's Speed Shop, engine by Lee Crupi (who is still around). Neat photos........

No Scott, Ronnie Sox did drive that Dodge at least once in the NC area. It was owned by Ronnie Cox.

This was posted on a Ford FE board. The pic is of the guy's Dad and his '67 390 Mustang fastback that he bought new but within a short time was running as a '68 428CJ car (note all the things going on with the hood). The car behind is his friend's new '69 Hemi Roadrunner. It just looks like a perfect period picture to me.

Look at what a great job Ken did on the radius job on the rear wheel well of that 55 Chevy, complete with chrome trim! That looks so much better than the usual hack jobs of the day.
