View Full Version : Should I / What are they Worth?

I have a 69 Camaro that is nothing special, just a 350 auto that needs some resto work. It has original paperwork including build sheets and invoices. It is original with original parts with the exception of a repaint done back in the 80's and is in need of another. It is a little unique in that it was ordered with XT wheels which it still has including the spare, which still has the original F70x14 tire mounted, and is an unusual color combo of Cortez with deluxe Midnight green interior. I bought the car with the intention restoring it, but have since decided to move on to other things. My question is, how valuable are the XT wheels and spare tire? Obviously if this was a COPO or some other high-end car I wouldn't consider splitting it from the original wheels, but since the car is really nothing special I'm wondering if I should keep the wheels, or maybe even sell them, seperately from the car. I don't see that the wheels are adding any value to this particular car, but would I be committing a cardinal sin to split up a documented car no matter how special it is? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Is it a real SS 350 car ? The tires shown in the pic are incorrect. Is the spare the same or different ?

Yes, it's a real RS/SS 350. The tires on the car are not original/correct, but the one on the spare is.

It's not just a 350 car, it's an RS/SS350. Lots of people would be interested in a nice original RS/SS350 car.
XT wheels were the base wheels on a SS, so they were not a special order.
Yes, the color combination is the unusual part of the car!
Personally, I'd keep the XT's with the car. They are what I'd expect to see on a car that is as original as this.

I'm sure you'll get a dozen PMs asking to sell the wheels and especially the valuable spare tire, but in my opinion you'd be a fool to split them up from the car just to make a few bucks. They look as good on that car as anything else would and are right for the car . Definitely keep em with it!
In the past, that spare tire has brought $1000.00 or more.(read pre-stock market decline)
That's just the tire, not the rim as that Firestone Wide Oval tire is a 1969 ONLY tire and was never reproduced. They changed that tire in both design lettering and material it was made from beginning with 1970 production. That's the one they reproduce today.
That's a real SS/RS 350.I don't know how much you have in this vehicle,so can't speak for which was you should go,but personally I wouldn't seperate a thing from the car especially the spare tire and XT rims.

Maybe not special to you, but to many of us that's a Very Special and Unique Car. My opinion: By all means, it should remain intact.

I would price the car with and without the wheels and let the buyer decide http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That's what I've been paying...and in fact offered that to the person Jacquie bought the car from.

Jacquie,
Keep the rims on the car...simply because thats where they were intended to be and therefore thats where they belong.
As you stated, the car has most if not all of its original parts...that is what helps make the car special...why part out a nice original car...? Besides, they make the car look absolutely awesome... Just my opinion

If I owned that Camaro, I'd have 2 sets of tires and wheels. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I'd keep those on/with the car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Okay, Okay...I'll take my flogging for calling the car "not special". http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif I only meant by "SuperCar standards" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
What drew me to the car in the first place was the unique color combo and the mean look of the steel wheels and dog dishes. I don't mind saying, by the time we went all the way to FL to get the car and made a few repairs, I have right at 30k into it. I have been trying to sell it for 32k without any luck. When I first got it, I had three offers of 32k but wasn't interested in selling at that time and now, because of the market I assume, those offers have disappeared. I was just thinking that maybe if I pulled the spare, sold the wheels/tire seperate, put some regular steel wheels back on it that maybe I could get the 32k that way. I knew that would be a big NO-NO with some cars, but wasn't sure about this one. I see the general consensus is to leave the car intact. You guys have got me looking at it as I did when I first got it again...so I don't know. Maybe I should just hang on to it and fix it up one day as I had planned to do in the first place. I'd have to farm it out, and that concerns me. I'm in the middle of a Cuda resto-from-hell project now and not sure I could stand to be upside down in another one. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

It runs pretty good, but needs a little more than a casual clean-up I'm afraid. That's where the spending $$$ comes in to play for me. I don't know how to take it apart, clean it, and put it back together again. Besides, I'm not sure I WANT to know, I might break a nail! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Ummm, Yeah!! Especially when you have to buy the parts TWICE! Sent money to a fine gentleman in Utah for a K-Frame, manifolds, carbs, etc. A few parts came trickling in, mostly junk, and then nothing. He won't answer the phone, won't return messages...I need to send a search party (or lynchin' mob) to Utah!

Your eyes are correct 13.26% with 36 payments of 109.87. I see the insurance guys were at it back then too...$584 for 12 months coverage on a $3700 vehicle!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
The car was painted back in the 80's. The guy I bought it from, a dealer, bought it from the original owner this year and it is still on the original title. The original owner said he special ordered the car in this color combo and he also requested that the build sheets be saved for him. There are three build sheets.

You can drive the car anywhere as is right now, enjoy it for a few years, once you restore it you'll be more reluctant to take it out. service it and drive it.
