EXTREMELY RARE SNOW EVENT ACROSS THE DESERT SOUTHWEST...

AN UNUSUAL COMBINATION OF SUBTROPICAL MOISTURE AND COLD... NORTHERLY... LOW LEVEL AIR HAS PRODUCED A RARE SNOWSTORM ACROSS THE LOWER ELEVATIONS OF THE MOHAVE DESERT... INCLUDING THE LAS VEGAS VALLEY. THIS SNOWSTORM WILL PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS TO THE LAS VEGAS VALLEY AS 3 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW ARE LIKELY AT MOST LOCATIONS INCLUDING THE LAS VEGAS STRIP. HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE... PARTICULARLY ACROSS THE WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE VALLEY WHERE TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO 10 INCHES ARE FORECAST.

THE SNOW BEGAN TO FALL ACROSS MUCH OF THE LAS VEGAS VALLEY EARLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. THIS WILL LIKELY BE THE BIGGEST SNOWSTORM TO IMPACT LAS VEGAS SINCE 1979... WHEN 7.8 INCHES OF SNOW WAS MEASURED AT MCCARRAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

SNOW REMOVAL EQUIPMENT IS EXTREMELY LIMITED IN THE LAS VEGAS VALLEY AND THE EFFECTS FROM THIS STORM WILL LIKELY LINGER INTO THURSDAY. TEMPERATURES QUICKLY REBOUND IN MANY INSTANCES FOLLOWING SNOW IN THE LOWER DESERTS. THIS WILL NOT BE THE CASE ON THURSDAY... AS THE TEMPERATURE WILL NOT CLIMB OUT OF THE 30S.

ELSEWHERE ACROSS THE LOWER DESERTS... ABOVE 2000 FEET... SNOWFALL OF 6 TO 18 INCHES IS EXPECTED. FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS PLEASE SEE THE LATEST WINTER STORM WARNING

Rich...this is taking place in Las Vegas...they had snow on Monday as well. Up by Railroad Pass(150 minutes off the strip proper) they have over a foot of snow http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif. I would expect that Hoover Dam would be getting snow as well. Hwy 95 is shut down...

We are about to get hit by the same storm...though it looks like we'll just get rain...between 1 and 4 inches.

Mark...I had heard that Malibu (and other Los Angeles areas) were getting snow as well.

Ya gotta love global warming http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We had 2 inches of snow last week here in most parts of Houston. At my house on the water we had 3 inches and my tropical jungle back yard was trying to figure out what was going on. Galveston Island had snow also. This is the 2nd time in 4 years we have had snow. The last time was Christmas eve of 2004 and we had 6-12 inches and it was accumulating on the beach.

I will 2nd that "global warming" comment!!!!!!!

I live in the south for a reason........

WOW, what a freak thing http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif.. hard to believe Vegas is getting that much snow when thinking about the last time I was there, July a couple years ago, walking the strip when it was 110 degrees... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Must be global warming!!!!

Coldest Nov here in 40 years. We got hit Tuesday during rush anyone familiar, commute times from the loop to Ohare were 4+ hours http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Were going to get hit again tonight.

I guess we have it easy compared to the guys east of us that get all the lake effect http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

We had an inch yesterday. I was entertaining to watch the new 7-pound puppy "Widget" experiencing snow for the first time. He just couldn't figure out what it was. He would run with his mouth open, close to the ground scooping up snow and then eating it. Overnight it froze and this morning he really couldn't figure out how to walk on it. The other dogs would crunch right through with their weight but he just slid around on top of it. Of course, he wouldn't "do his duty" on this new slick stuff and waited til he got back inside to go. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
