What is the difference between an original 1969 Camaro big block hurst shifter and a small block hurst shifter? How do you tell the difference?

Both shifters are the same, but the linkage and rods are different....

On the same muncie trans? I think the handle might be different because the motor and trans are located one inch to the right for BBC.

Same handle # 5325, and a #3138 body, unless someone knows of a differant handle.

Matt, what do you want a picture of ?

I got an original 69 camaro Hurst Shifter, I seen where there is a difference b/t the big block one and small block one. I was trying to figure out what I got.

I believe the shifter and handle are exactly the same for bb vs. sb. The difference is the mounting bracket as shown in RPOL88's auction, and the rods. Since the bb shifter is about 1/2" further away from the tranny than the sb one, the rods are bent just a little differently.

Thanks I think I got a set of BB rods and linkages. Are the rods any thicker?

Here's what I think I know. SB and BB rods are the same diameter. The correct BB rods are numbered. SB are not. Both sets are longer than the aftermarket Hurst rods. Rev. is 9" 1st. & 2nd. is 14 3/4" 3&4 is 17 1/2".3&4 uses a fine thread. (3/8ths.-24). The factory 9 hole & the BB mounting brackets lower the position of the shifter on the transmission. Both brackets have an elongated hole for the bottom bolt that allows you to pivot the shifter for your desired location. Let me know if I need to be corrected. Thanks, Tom.

Shifter to trans mounting bracket is different on BB to accomodate offset, along with different rods.

Sounds like logical information. I'll take a look at the one I got tomorrow and I'll see if it is consistant to yours specs.

Since it was easy to take a picture, I'm posting mt Comp Plus shifter assembly for a 69 Nova. I'd like to see a picture of a factory setup for both BB SB if anyone's got them.

Excuse the tow tabs, I'm practically tripping over them these days http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

WOW! That is one nice looking table! I wish I had that trans mount when I did my Muncie.

Which set of tabs are for me?

Not all original big block Hurst rods were stamped. I have
an original complete Hurst BB shifter setup that was an early takeoff. None of the rods are stamped.

Thank you for the info as I do have a few sets without stamps. I assumed they were SB. Because the BB bracket makes up for the 1" offset , what is the difference in the rods? Any pic's?
