I am looking for a BBC cam and lifters that required the block to have a guide groove cut to run the lifters. I currently have a 427 block that has this modification and I would like to try and find a cam and lifters to install rather than having to bush the lifter bores. I have been told that these were early rollers before the link bars. If anyone has any info on these please contact me. Thanks Andy

I may be mistaken, and someone will *gladly* correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought grooving the lifter bores was simply another aid @ rebuild time to get more oil to the lifters, and not necessarily a necessity...so it wouldn't be cam/lifter specific, right? The early big blocks required a grooved rear journal on the cam to oil the lifters, and the groove can be added to any cam...been there, done that!

This would be the process for oiling grooves, there were some very early roller's that require a receiver groove. The lifters today might be very hard to come by.

Interesting...I'd always heard about grooving lifter bores, but just never had 'cause to.

Thanks for the info guys. The odd thing is the lifter bores are grooved on the top side of each bore from top to bottom. It is also a considerable groove and I'm concerned about oil pressuse if they aren't bushed or the grooves filled. Honestly, I don't expect to find any lifters but thought I would take a chance and put the info request out to some of the best forums to see if anyone had knowledge to share. I continually learn alot from the forums here and at Team Chevelle. thanks again for the comments. Andy
