Rare indeed, but there are a couple others out there...specifically, a Daytona Yellow automatic car.

Just read through this entire thread. Great story, and very fortunate to have found that car at all, never mine in any shape. Sad to see some of those people acting in the manour that they have (so much for being an original owner with paperwork, Huh?). I could see some uproar if you were trying to sell the car, but from all indications you come across as never parting ways with it again. You know what you know about it, and it's nice to see someone with such a passion for a car that has nothing to do with money. Thanks for sharing.

A few years back I had a L72 for a 69 COPO Chevelle from the Kansas Plant. Everyone thought it was a fake until Roger's car surfaced. Jerry inspected the stamps and certified them as real. There were at least two. Both automatics.

It would have been nice for that motor to have made it into Rogers car. BTW- I have met Roger at several shows to include MCACN, he and his wife are great people.

Congrats on the ink Roger, you deserve it. You should write a book on this story!

Someone in Seattle bought the motor from me. Vin 19K465533

Karen and I attended the Chaparels Car Club 50 year anniversary event in my old home town of Plattsburg MO on the 4th.
A surprise came my way at the event from Steve Engnes (event organizer). It was old and had an interesting story

Steve said the emblem came off a '69 Chevelle sold at auction in the early '80's. Being a drag racer himself, Steve knew about "Dickie Harrell" so he picked up the emblem

The auction location was the same as where my old Chevelle was auctioned off in the early '80's. I talked to the early '80's owner back in Dec 2008 and he related the sale event - said the Harrell emblem was on the car when consigned but later went missing . . .

Over 30 years later

'68 Harrell 427CI "transplant", started out as an SS 396/375 L89 . . .
ONLY '68 Chevelle Harrell 427CI "transplant" I know of w/aluminum heads . . .
There were four other '68 Harrell "transplant" Chevelles . . .

Tracked down all Missouri DMV "owners of record" for my old Chevelle . . .
The following five owners lived in/around Knob Noster Mo:
. . HK, David P & Richard D owned after I traded it Until July 1983 . . .
. . Roger C owned from July 1983, sold in Aug 1983 . . .
. . . . Roger's mom said he passed away in 1987 . . .
. . Robert V owned from Aug 1983, sold in 1985 at auction, Higginsville Mo . . .
. . . .The Harrell emblem went missing at that auction . . .
. . . .I tracked Robert down in Dec 2008 and we talked several times . . .

Then, the car changed owners three more times . . .
. . Joe C, Independence Mo, had it until Dec 2007, sold on eBay . . .
. . Jason S, Spencer Ia, bought on eBay Dec 2007, sold on eBay Jan 2008 . . .
. . Jon W in Ottawa Il, bought on eBay Jan 2008 . . .
I bought it back from Jon via his August 11, 2009 Craigslist add

I'm checking with them for their stories - hopeful I can share them . . .
Also hopeful I can come up with a few circa 70's photos to share :beers:

August 22, 2009:
There were two other Dick Harrell cars on Bill Allens lot the day I bought my 69 Chevelle - one was a Camaro for sure but I don't recall if the other was a Chevelle or Camaro. Don't know of any other DHPC cars and have never come across a single one out in the real world. . .

Any chance you remember my Chevelle . . . (https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000620164591&ref=content_filter). Bob replied, "I really do, there was a Nova/Chevy 2 and a Camaro. All three Dickie Harrell cars"
"Bob" is Bill Allen's youngest son . . .

Joe - I'm a packrat for sure and I have pictures of my '66 Chevelle SS (3 Polaroids) . . .
I am searching for a fellow from Gallatin who (one early summer evening in 1970 on Hwy 13 between Gallatin and Hamilton, MO) met more than his match. He was driving THE HOT DODGE in Gallatin - believe it was tricked out - never had a chance with my plane/Jane orange V8 Chevelle. . .

October 24, 2011:
Sad news this morning - we learned that Karen's classmate, Ben Houghton, passed away Saturday, Oct 22, 2011 :(

Summer of 1970, the other Race . . .
The other race was just outside Karen's hometown of Gallatin, MO in the summer of 1970 shortly after we were engaged. She and a lifelong friend Janel Reynolds, were riding around with me that summer evening when we were “invited” to race Karen & Janel’s underclassman, Ben Houghton in his strong running Challenger 440 six pack. Junior Burke set it up on Highway 13 between Gallatin and Hamilton. Ben smoked his tires - I eased off the line and then hammered it to the turnaround. Flashing red lights in the distance heading our way halted a rematch . . .

Gallatin Missouri, summer of '70 race remembered :) (https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100007526525834&ref=content_filter)

Not the typical show where I had to explain "Bill Bill Allen Allen" or his connection with Dick Harrell

The response was overwhelming ❤
Bob Allen (Bill Allen's son) dropped by to see the Chevelle again & talk about old times ❤

Maybe this will help convince some of the neh sayers that your car is what you have always claimed it to be and can finally get the credit it deserves.

About 20 years ago a friend of mine in Odessa, MO owned the all original red 1968 Dick Harrell 427 Chevelle. Wonder what ever happened to that car?

Likely the same car Joe Sweezy and Steve Sandlins previously owned car. I think it is now in the Brother's Collection?

I think it might have been. If I remember correctly it had dual carbs on it.

----Using that bench seat for what it was designed for, I see! absolutely no social distancing going on as was so very common back in the day. Something got lost when buckets became so prevalent. Good for you two. I'm just thinking now and we don't have one bench seat car. Oh, the shame...Bill S

The repop MC/Booster I installed back in 2010 failed last year soooo, I sent out the one I removed (and tucked away in late 2009) for restoration last year. Turned out pretty good thanks to Mike at brakeboosters (http://brakeboosters.com) and, now the old Chevelle is ready to go - WAD

Your Master Cylinder should be black and your exhaust manifold bolts should NOT be ALL Flange Bolts.....just saying.

Hey Dan:

Good eye - Thanks for the heads up
If memory serves, my OEM MC was not painted but, I may redo it black or, whomever owns it after me can do it :)

I hear ya on the ex manifold bolts :)
Which ones should be non flanged?
Maybe try to find the correct ones.
How many do I need and do you have any extras :)

I should try to locate a set of “AIR” ex manifolds and plug them (Harrell’s shop removed the smog stuff and plugged them) but for now, most likely just stick with the “NA”’s :)

Hi Roger,

The Exhaust Manifold bolts....The eight outers are all Flanged.... the remaining inners are Non-Flange and No Washers.

Is your plan to ever put the smog system back on the car?

Hope to see you soon again......be safe and be well.

No plans to change any of the Harrell shop mods.
Any chance you have the non flanged ex man bolts I need :)

PS: A friend just phoned @ 3PM today - NF manifold bolts on the way

I love this story on this car so much went through it twice I do have a question out of ignorance: the rear end I saw mention of the KK code which I'm familiar but is there no special "BE" like for Camaro Copo's? thanks ahead for the education
