View Full Version : L78/L71/L72/LS6 143 "blueprint" camshaft - Part 2
Chevy454
09-23-2009, 12:45 AM
Any more of you L78/L71/L72/LS6, big block Chevy guys have any interest in a '143' blueprint camshaft? Immediate or otherwise??
After the success of our prior 143 camshaft group buy (http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB10&Number=401714&Searchpage=2&Main=400208&Words=143&topic=&Search=true#Post401714) we've had a few more folks express an interest in getting another camshaft.
These are all CNC machined cams, so they're about as good as you can get, in regards to a blueprint of the original 143 cam. But, something else of interest for you more *adventurous* folks, these cams can be made on any lobe centerline angle, as well as any lobe seperation angle...just let us know when ordering.
PRICING & PAYMENT INFO BELOW!!!!
------------------------------------------------------
<u>Cam:</u>
$150 + $15 s&h
Cam will be an Engine Power cam core, which is Made in the USA and supplies cores to all of the big companies, and then Bullet Cams will CNC grind it to exact specs, which not even the original GM/Crane piece can claim.
<u>Lifters: </u>
standard solid lifters, $70 + $8 s&h
EDM solid lifters, $165 + $8 s&H
Lifters are Johnson lifters, which have been around forever, and are also Made in the USA. Again, for EDM lifters, PM me for price

Direct oil supply to the cam/lifter mating surfaces helps ensure the cam and lifters survive. You can read a little more here (http://www.vintagemusclecarparts.com/496_Project_3.html) on my website if you're so inclined...about 1/2 way down the page.

I just got my L72 Original Paint Corvette back together with the help of your camshaft. It runs like a bear and I'm still breaking in the motor and working through dialing in the carburetor. Thanks for all of your help, Ed http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

We wound up installing it six degrees retarded as you suggested. My original plan was to build the engine "bone stock" but, I decided to shelf the 7115 crank and original rods and went with really nice pieces from Eagle. I also upped the compression with Ross .030 over pistons to about 11.6:1 The rotating assembly was balanced and we did a little pocket porting on the heads and triple cut the valves. I'm stuck runing 110 Sunoco but she's a real wolf! Thanks again, Ed

I gotta agree about that '66 L-72 being nasty! I've always thought of them as one of the most over-powered, under-tired Musclecars of all time! Brutally fast! You line this '66 up against a '67 427-435 Tri-carbed 'Vette and my money would be on the '66 car.

I agree about the "skinny tires". I'm running F70x15 Coker redlines on a 15x6 steel wheel with the original hubcaps. I've got a set of old American D-spokes that I'll be mounting up this week. Now since it hasn't rained today (first in two weeks), I'm off to continue the break-in! Thanks, Ed

The original cams were ground 6 degrees advanced, as are the true blueprint copies...so retarding the cam 6 degrees basically puts it back to "straight up", and brings it inline with where the compression maps say it needs to be.

When everyone receives there cam and/or lifters, *please* inspect everything and make sure nothing is broken...UPS has already wrecked one of these camshafts, but we need to know asap to file the claim.

Seems our cam place has shipped the wrong cams to a few folks, so I need y'all to open up your cam boxes, get the cam card out, and call Jim Lerum at (815) 276-5954. I am gonna try and contact the folks in this order as soon as I can, but I'm gonna be tied up most of the day tomorrow (Saturday)...so if you haven't heard from me, please call Jim!
I apologize for the mix-up, and if anyone has an engine going together and needs a cam ASAP, please let us know!

I prefer that if people call me, use the 815.276.5954 number. So far, 3 people including myself received the wrong camshaft.
You will get a call from me this weekend to verify what you have on the cam card. Early next week I'll have more info for you.

People should be receiving the proper camshaft as we speak. One again, please check to make sure shipping hasn't dropped kicked it in 1/2. The cam card should read as follows:
INTAKE and EXHAUST @.050 242 & 242
DURATION @ .020 285 & 285
Gross Lift .520 & .520
Valve lash Hot .024 INT. & .028 EXH.
LORD FORBID if you need to call me, do so at 815.276.5954
Believe me when I say this has been as painful for Rob and I as it has been for you. Just to state once again, this has been a wonderful camshaft for BBC restoration and Pure Stock Drag racing owners!
Have a great HOLIDAY!
