Donnie done good... I saw these pics last week when the car arrived at it's new home. It looks like a good solid start, and a cool resto project. If it comes out half as nice as his 70 Chevelle, it will be a head turner.

My 69 ElCamino also had the 2 piece rotors. I had a good friend, who could be trusted, cut the rotors. There may be very little metal to work with, so be sure whoever cuts them, understands that.

Phil,
thats weird that you ask for updates. I just did a search for this post and sent it to a body guy that I know in Indy, where the car might be headed soon.
I have collected more parts sent the trim out to be polished.
also just sent the alternator and distributor for rebuild.
and a G.M. smog system is also being rebuilt for it.

09-18-2011, 04:24 PM
at this point I still have no updates.
I was suppose to have the car back from sheet metal work sometime in June.
body guy had things come up and I understand that no problem.
so I figure sometime in Augest.
but its now getting to the point that getting the car back home, off the frame and media blasted before winter isn't going to happen.
and if it doesn't I wont get the frame done over winter. and the body wont get painted over winter.

Donnie;
Bodyguy said my car should be ready to come home by next weekend barring any more unforeseen obstacles. Your car is next in line, and he informed me that he's going to do everything in his power to get it wrapped up a.s.a.p.
FWIW, don't feel too lonesome...my Chevelle was supposed to be completed somewhere around April/May, but with Bodyguy #2 being called out of town three...no, make that <span style="font-style: italic">four</span> times now for extended periods of time (he's out of town again as we speak covering the East Coast storm damage), Bodyguy #1 was left to fend for himself--that on top of having to help Dale's widow get things sorted out, and the next thing you know we're both running ~5 months behind schedule.
Trust me...he's just as frustrated as we, if not moreso.
With any luck my Chevelle will be out of there next weekend, and your Chevelle shouldn't be far behind.

My car will be leaving the shop bright & early Monday morning. I will be helping Bodyguy move Donnie's Chevelle over where my Chevelle has been so he has room to work on it.
Bodyguy has a quickie water pump job to knock out on another car Monday morning, then he's on yours until it's done. Again, his frustration level resulting from all the unforeseen delays rivals both of ours put together, and we'll leave it at that.
I will still be going out there now & then for a few other miscellaneous things, and I'll help as much as I can and try to grab whatever update shots I can when I'm there. Bodyguy can provide some pics too, but I wouldn't push that issue too hard since he's already got so much on his plate to try to get caught up now.
Look for some updates soon, and thanks for being so patient and understanding. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Dave has the trunk floor and wheelhouses patched (noted by the black marker in the following pics), the package tray and rear seat panel are done, the wheelhouses are in and the DS quarter is tacked in place at the front for fitting.

If that is your direction, be sure to discuss with me your <span style="font-weight: bold">NEW</span> spring selection.....I`ve been there done that <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif Getting the stance just right can be very expensive by going through various springs and companies.
Dan
That correct spring code for the front spring is GW, that matches the part number on the tag. I have the same springs on my 69 Malibu and 69 SS.
If Dan has some good spring codes, definitely check with him before putting new springs on the car. With some homework, it isn't too hard to find the right coils.

I've been getting ready to start on the motor. I was just about to drop everything off last Monday to the shop that did my 70 350hp motor.
when I started thinking on Sunday. (I know me thinking kinda scary)
so, I put a call into Mr. Jackson to ask a few questions. after our conversation I said. if you were closer I'd have you build it. and Eric said he would love too. so at that point you have someone who wants to build a quality motor (and is meticulous) and I have someone that I'm comfortable with doing my motor work. So my L78 will be his next motor build. going to drop it off next week if everything goes right.

I thought I would add in a little piece to Donnie's restoration. I stopped at his place on my way back from MCACN to drop off some parts to him. I also brought his drive shaft back with me to drop off to Quanta for restoration. Since we all know how picky Donnie is in regards to his attention to detail <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif, I decided to clean up a part of the drive shaft to reveal the original stripes painted on it and take some measurements.
Cleaning revealed stripes in this pattern... Orange Blue Black. Each one is approximately 1/4" wide and spaced 3/4" between orange and blue, then 1/2" between blue and black. The orange stripe begins 26.5" from the front of the drive shaft (outer edge of the U joint casing) The black stripe is set 27.5" from the back
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/BlueSS454/MISC/IMG_5981.jpg
I even used correct colored Sharpie markers to illustrate!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/BlueSS454/MISC/IMG_5980.jpg
I am going to drop it off at Quanta on my of my journeys to Maryland in the next couple weeks.

Quanta does 98% of all of mine. They are not technically assembly line correct as an original is cold rolled steel with a welded seam and welded ends which are blued from the heat but it beats paint! Only virgin shafts or NOS shafts can be saved with plastic media blasting and retain an the original appearance. Below is an example of a Quanta restoration after I reapplied the stripes.

Only "problem" I have with quanta. Is they send them out. Then they triple charge you shipping. They never told me this when I placed my order. Also, I built a 4" pcv tube( spent about $32) and they stole it and sent it back in a single wall cardboard box. When I asked where my tube went they said oh FedEx, broke it. Didn't file a claim or bother telling me. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif
