View Full Version : Value on a low (really low) mile 1995 Camaro 1LE?
Hi Guys. I've been offered a trade on my Buick. It's a 14,000 KM (8,680 miles) 1995 Camaro 1LE. Coincidentally, I've owned a couple 1LE's new (a 1994 was the last one) so I know them pretty well. The car has been pampered from what I gather, and there's a good paper trail (Canadian car too). As I understand it, they produced somewhere in the range of 28 delivered in Canada (out of a possible 106 total?).
Anyway, what's it worth? I need some input pretty quick, and I believe you folks are my go-to guys for info.
Thanks a bunch fellas! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

There was an extremely low mile 95 at Wagner's about a month ago. IIRC, he was asking somewhere around 20k for it.
Thanks folks. I spent all day digging. I finally tracked down an old acquaintance who is big into these cars. He figures it ought to wholesale in the 12,500 to 15,000 range (actually, his exact words were "I'll buy it sight unseen right now for $12,500..if it's nice, I'd go to 15,000"). So that makes Wagner's price seen just about right.
Thanks again. If it goes together, I'll shoot some pix and post 'em <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif .

Good luck Wayne!
Here's a quick teaser. Car should be in my shop within a few weeks. From everything I have, it's pretty much 14,000 KM (8,600 original miles) perfect. If it is anything like the '94 I bought new, it'll rip. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif I absolutely adore these old "we're not racing, race cars" that the old GM built. It will be "For Sale". <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/crazy.gif

is that a B4C?
I thought all the Z28' back then had the black roof and mirrors ... ?
nice looking wheels, those 17"? I knew you could get 17's on the SS's, but I have never seen a "regular" car with the SS wheels (unless those are Corvette wheels)
Hi Jim.
No. It's not a B4C. It's a 1LE, which was a factory lightweight package designed for SCCA types. Some of my old GM of Canada pals like Bill Ball (Engineering) did much of the groundwork on them for the old Player's Challenge series up here in Canada. Then, if you recall manufacturers other than GM were doing rather well in showroom stock. The 1LE fit pretty much perfectly within the SCCA rules. The 1LE option deleted and blocked other options/equipment such as AC, cruise, power windows, power door locks, fog lamps, optional radios, etc. The cars received a minimal amount of sound deadener. The suspension was revised (deCarbon gas shocks was the big change in the 4th gen cars), and outside, the bodies received body color roofs and mirrors.
When I had my new '94 (which took forever to get after the order was made), I was stopped by a cop in a similar B4C. We had a nice chat. He had a close look at the car and his only big comment was "I guess those are the Camaros I should be worried about...." L-O-L. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/burnout.gif
As far as the wheels are concerned, I'm getting the original wheels and tires with the car. Those are SLP SS wheels and Goodyear boots.
Thanks for the question. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Beautiful car Wayne. I don't know that I've ever seen one that color.
When I was in high school, my girlfriend at the time's dad bought a new 93 Z28, the first one any of us had seen in person. Burgundy red and a six speed. Man, that car looked tough, especially from the back with those big GS-Cs tucked under it.
Thanks for the compliment on the car. It is a pretty car.
You folks might find this interesting: Before the 1LE became available, GM of Canada Motorsports built a fleet of cars for the Player's Challenge series they were promoting. I'm quite sure those cars provided the seed for the 1LE cars that came later. I acquired one of those early Player's Challenge cars for magazine and book work. It came directly from GM of Canada. It was a lightly used 1986 Firebird T/A that saw parade duty for the Player's Challenge series. The car was white with a grey cloth interior, and much like the later "official" 1LE cars, it was pretty basic. It ran great though. I drove that car from Oshawa, through the US Midwest and westward to my home in Western Canada. During the trip, the Wisconsin State Patrol became, uhm, interested in the top speed capabilities of the Firebird. I didn't go to jail, but I suppose I should have. I'm an ex-cop and we did have a rather lengthy discussion about the accuracy of VASCAR. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif. A day or so later, I ended up parking it part way in my driveway at home -- My wife and I arrived in a raging blizzard. It was a road trip and a half.
To make a long story short, the car was eventually turned into a NHRA Super Stock GT car (and updated from 1986 trim to 1992 trim). My race partner campaigned the car. We had a very limited budget, although some racers accused us of big factory support: "Those guys have bow tie blocks stacked up like cordwood". I only wish. We had one 255 HP 350, one good Powerglide and one broken Powerglide and two torque converters. We eventually sold the car to pay off our slightly over extended credit cards (L-O-L). And the year after, it won the NHRA Super Stock World Championship. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/eek.gif It was one of those cars that had soul.

I am very aware of the 1LE packages, the ones that came out in 88 and continued through the new bodies. Not sure if the Players cars had the big brakes on the early years ...
My best man at my wedding was the chassis engineer for those cars (and is still a chassis engineer with GM) ...
We drove to Florida from Detroit in the winter of 87 in a 1LE "prototype" and ran a SCCA race at the Sebring track ...
the 4th gen 1LE's differences were the higher durometer suspension bushings, sway bar(s?), fuel tank baffle, alum prop shaft, DeCarbon shocks (soon replaced by Konis) and no a/c ... the brakes were the same as opposed to the Corvette front rotors that the 3rd gens had
There were several 1LE's that a local dealer (Chapman Chevrolet) ordered and got stuck with ... no a/c in AZ??? lol

Cool story. I'm a big fan of 80s muscle, if you couldn't tell by my screen name. Underappreciated, in my opinion.

That sounds a lot like the '94 I had (the '94 I ordered was black with a leather interior...probably one of one). These were actually pretty quick. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Thx. I guess the bit of irony is we painted that Super Stocker in almost the same blue as the ILE in the picture.

Hi Jim.
The '86 I had was equipped with standard brakes. It was a neat car. Thanks for the further update on the suspension.

Here's a few photos of a 1LE Canadian car that I saw last year, and is currently in Edmonton.
I think it's an 87, and has been restored to 'as raced' trim.

Thank you. That brings back fond memories!
As soon as the Blue 1LE gets here, I'll add some more photos (might be a few weeks, since a couple of the big trucking outfits here in Canada can't deliver until after Christmas -- although we're hoping to get a smaller operator to do the haul before then).
BTW: That last photo definitely gives me garage envy <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif

Congrats on your new toy Wayne!.
Were all 1LE cars body color instead of black roof also how is it indicated on the paperwork or vehicle and was it available at no cost or an extra?.

Hi Pete. I've only seen three fourth generation 1LE's in person -- the black '94 I bought new, a red '95 and this one. All had paint-matching roof panels and mirrors (of course, it didn't matter much with my black car <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif ). When all of the paperwork arrives I'll see what's on it. IIRC, it was standard with the 1LE and no charge. Right now Mackie is scheduled to haul the car from Winnipeg, and from what I gather, their trucks are in Ontario or eastern Canada (fingers crossed...out here the weather is pretty good, but boy you guys are getting hammered <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/eek.gif ).
I'd absolutely love to keep it for a bit, but I'm positive I'll need the $$$ for my Nova project (I sure don't need to tell anyone here how quickly a total build gobbles cash...L-O-L).
Take care man...and Stay Warm!!!

If you're ever in Penticton, I can get you in to have a look at this garage and collection. The 1991 1LE car is in this collection, and was bought new here as well. I was a sponsor for the two years it competed in the Players Challenge.
There's quite a few nice cars in this collection.
