I haven't posted anything on here in a long time. I thought it was about time for an update of what I have been working on. I would like to thank again, all the restorers and experts, for their information and helpful photos. My cars would not be what they are today if it hadn't been for their time as well.

The car is originally Glacier Blue, with a Dover White roof, and light blue guts. Ofcourse it was a 6cyl torque drive auto on the column. It did have the deluxe rocker moldings and bright window trim. The odometer has 44K, but not so sure about that?? There was so much rot in this car that I'm surprised the floors were in half decent shape.

The car needed new rockers, quarters, inner and outer wheelhouses, drop offs, center trunk floor, pass side rear floor pan, two front fenders, a hood, deck lid, and rear tailpan behind the bumper. Oh, not too mention 18" of the rear frame rails, a rad support, and an upper dash panel.
Did I replace the whole car??? Sounds like it.

Yea, Sammy. Im looking for some traction bars, an intake, and some shocks. Maybe some square flange four bolt headers?
Looking real nice Jed! I can't get enough of the Nova's on this site. Looking for an intake? Dual Quads?
Nova Jed

Looking for an old Edelbrock dual plane single carb.
Something like this?
http://www.hotrodauctions.net/ebay/TRM/4-15-09/060.jpg
Looks like they made a a few different configs. I found this link over on the H.A.M.B. and will cut and paste one fellows comments here"
"...I've delved into this a whole lot. I have in my shop a C3B, C4B and C3BX. The intake runner layout is different on my C4B than the other two. It has a pair of real short runners, and a pair of real long runners. The carb base is a 4-hole base.
The C3B and C3Bx have a divided 2-opening plenum, with the notch for the Holley 3BBL carb in the plenum divider. The high and low side of the plenum floors is opposite the C4B, and the runners are more equal in length. It's clear this is the version the Performer was patterned after.
HOWEVER, I've also seen pics of a C3B WITHOUT the notch for the plenum, and I've seen pics of a C4B with a divided plenum and evenly spaced runners.
In short, I've seen every combination of plenum/carb pad with each designation.
AND, I've seen all of them with the fill tube going out the right, or going out the left, with the T-stat housing going the opposite way.
On the C3B I've got, and the C3BX, the only difference I see is a couple of different ports up front for the heater hoses (drilled/tapped versus the boss is there but not drilled), but more importantly, my C3BX has the boss for a choke mechanism cast into it. My C3B and C4B do not have those, and I haven't seen any of the others since to compare."
Here is the link for those who want to poke around.

No problem Schoney!
Oh yes Paul! 5500 RPM redline Pontiac hood tach! Still dont have that. Trying to get the one with the glass face instead of the plastic, but they only work with points??? I know I have one that works with my electronic distributor. When did the repros change that feature???
Might be able to use one of those MSD conditioner boxes for the fix. What the heck, points aren't that bad anyways.

Thanks and yes, that is Astro Blue over Fathom Blue. 70 colors but saw one in yard and thought is was a cool combo. Plus I have never seen a Nova painted like that. I checked the tag on the 70 yard car, and sure enough, it was code 28 25. This 69 all started because of that car. I just couldn't paint it back to Glacier Blue and Dover White.

Jed,
Nice work on the car. I really like the color combo.
My 69 300 deluxe Chevelle is glacier blue with white painted top, I was basically satisfied with that color combo until seeing your car. Now you've got me thinking. Great color choices.

Woj, I think the Dover White over Glacier Blue is nice. I had taken pics of a 69 at the Nova Nationals this past year, but I just couldn't do it. I just wanted to do something different. It's not an SS, so I figured why not? It appears that it's gaining popularity, even with myself. Who guessed?

Repro dash bezel from J&W Nova. This thing looks great and fits like a glove! I was really impressed with this piece. Well, I have to admit some bit of defeat, man I hate that! Work is keeping me way too busy and the H-1 racing season has started with Webster Racing. There is a ton of work to do to their new boat and guess what? There is a lot of painting to be done before the first race. The race is July 4th weekend in Madison Ind. Finger prints? No finger prints in that paint job. Just a little dusty from sitting in the garage for a month or two. Hee hee. But it didn't take that much to get out the orange peel. Needs a final buffing and some detailing.

Thanks Rick. I lucked out on the staples. The impact strip was so good that the original holes were still good. Just found the right size wire and bent up some stainless. I don't like gluing that strip on anyway.
Jason, they are repops. I would have rather used originals, but most of the other trim is too. Kinda hard to find good used originals. The other stainless had just been buffed out really well.

Looking very good Jed, Brings back memories to the 68 I tore apart to fix up my SS in 1989. It was a tough decision, I remember it well. But back in the day we didn't have the panels we do today. It had the same color combination as what you chose. I now regret doing it but there are many of us who have regrets in what we did. I don't even have a picture of it. I even "donated" all the left over parts to NNN after I took what was needed for the SS.

Hey Jed,
Spill the beans. Do you have the wiring and function of the rev pol coil, dizzy, and switch figured out? Lets see some fotos! Thanks
Nova Jed
03-07-2013, 12:08 AM
Sam, I think I have figured out what it does? The switch is there to give the coil a full 12 volts. The way that its wired into the ignition circuit would indicate that with the switch in the street position, voltage steps down through the resistor and in the strip position, it bypasses the resistor and goes straight to the coil. Hence the warnings of only having it in the strip position while at the races.
I have realized mounting the coil to the firewall isn't as easy due to the automatic dipstick. That dipstick took my sweet spot!!! I wasn't thinking with my dipstick!

Hey Jed,
I noticed you have the hood scoop insert on your stinger hood! I have just purchased a fibre repop hood for my 72 Nova and like the look of the insert. So does the Vett repop insert install OK?
cheers Dave

It takes quite a few hours to get it right. About 40+ all said and done.
Looking good! Plenty of time to get it ready to drive to the SLS at Carlisle. It would be cool if we tried to fill the parking lot like an old Muscle Car hang-out!

I took care of some Gremlins over the weekend and took the car for a short jaunt in the neighborhood. Had her sideways with a quick stab of the gas. Partly because of the redlines, I think? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif
The Rev-Pol switch is in and functions as I had thought. The more I rev the gas in strip mode, the brighter the light gets. When I let off the gas, it pops through the exhaust. It does not do that in the street mode. So I guess it has a little extra spark that's jumping across the points?
And a factory style 4 blade fan keeps the temp rather well, ideling with a few passes up and down the driveway ofcourse.
Anyone have any problems with a retro or repro radio? Bought one last year at Maple Grove Super Chevy last year. Tested it out in the car and everything was fine. Now all of a sudden, I can't even get the thing to turn on. I just get a blip of the blue L E Ds and that's it.

That is such a groovy paint combo .... Killer look <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/3gears.gif what motor / trans combo?
Nova Jed

From what I remember decoding on the block, it was an 81 Camaro 350 4brl, 2 bolt mains. It was given to me when I was 10 by my uncle. The block was decked, bored .030 over. The heads were cut .014. New valves, springs, and guides. Flat top hypereutectic pistons, cast crank, -.010, rods, -.010. The cam is a .462 .469 lift. Double roller chain. Assembled by myself and my father. Machine work was done at a shop. Older Edelbrock valve covers and a c3b intake with a 600 Holley, Mallory Rev-Pol dual point ignition system. I rebuilt and set up the distributor as well. White ceramic coated Hooker headers.
The trans is out of a 76 Vette. Turbo 350. That trans was originally in my first Nova. Blew that up the night before my senior prom. Had it ever since. I took the whole thing apart first, just to see what damage I had done. Turned out to be a band and clutches. That was sent out to be rebuilt and checked. 1400rmp tci torque converter. No shift kit at the moment.
The rear is an 8.5 out of a 72 Nova that I upgraded to a 3.42 Eaton Posi. I rebuilt that and set that up myself. And a set of Lakewood slapper bars.
Too many of the guys know on this site that I am an alignment and exhaust system away from getting it on the road. It's been a 5yr labor of love and enjoyed juuuust about every minute of it. I met a lot of great people along the way and I still am. You all know who you are so far! I hope to meet many more.

Just a quick update. Sold my Orange 70 Nova two weeks ago. Had to let her go.
The exhaust on the car will be buttoned up this week. It's a 2.5 in Flowmaster American Thunder Transverse system that I installed in a weekend. Quick note, if you ever install one of these systems, make sure the H-pipe is installed in the right direction. Bends in the H-pipe must point down towards the ground. The install instructions did not have that listed. A quick phone call to Flowmaster was well worth it. Even the tech on the other end noted that they neglected to mention this important piece of info. I also used the original type exhaust hangers to hang the pipes up over the axel. My car was never a dual car, but I put nutserts in just because I hate taking the backseat out to get at nuts and bolts.
As I am not a dual exhaust out the back kind of guy, I borrowed an original GM 69 Nova exhaust tip from bbbenny and copied the tips. At the moment, I am going to make them work for that subtle stock look.
So far, everything fit up nicely and it still has that rumble I was looking for.
Come on warm weather!
Really looking forward to seeing the car in person. Guess it's time for a new signature pic?
