Im having a 454 BBC Built up for my 1967 Firebird, The Car is "DAY2" style And I want to build the motor to RUN & SOUND the part-So far I have the parts I need for the look-But Im having some trouble as far as Picking a Camshaft-the motor has a Solid Crane powermax roller "nitrous" Grind- 246/254 -114 LSA - 615/636-I had A LOT of issue's with it-So I want to swap it out for a Hydraulic Roller from Howard Cam 242/242 110 LSA
620/620-Also I have 3 Different intakes I can run with this- 1st choice because it looks Cool is the Older Torker single plane that mounts carb at angle, Then 2nd is an equally old Holley "street contender" it is a low riser single plane with a "WINTER'S" Casting mark So it almost looks Factory-Then I have a Modern Edelbrock Performer permashine Dual plane-I also Need some Info On the Best Fit Headers to fit this car-Any Input as far as PROVEN BBC Combo's is appreciated- I had this motor in my Bracket car & Im having it Refreshed- its about 10:5.1 CR- 290 Large oval port heads with large valves heads all done up-BOWTIE Rods-Fully STUDED-Upper&Lowers-& I Want to have it RUN POWERFULL on the street AND strip-its going behind a Muncie 4 speed with 4:33 REAR Cogs..

The vintage Torker is a Day 2 favorite as well as the Edelbrock C427.

I would say try the 660's if you don't want good street manners or care about any fuel mileage at all. I just posted on the same issue over at Steve's Nova Site.

Yeah I dont Care about Fuel mileage-I want it FAST& to look Old school-If I had the money ,I would do a Blower with 2 four's.. I am gonna drive it on the street And take it to the Track..My budget says use the parts I have on Hand, A tunnel look's So MEAN -But my budget is VERY tight this time around-Im looking for most bang for my buck...

I would sy Tunnel Ram would give you 60 to 90 hp more and there is the "WOW" factor.

The trick for Tunnel Ram for the street is idle circuit too rich. Restrict the idle circuit in the metering blocks and run vacuum scondary carbs. I have run them for 20 years.

http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab89/4onthefloor/img094.jpg Heres what kind of build im copying-It gonna be more like the 2nd graph but with 3rd graph type power-Im using my "290" Large Oval port heads that are closed chamber style-these heads have BIG valves in them-plus they been Worked on-so I will have more compression than they did on Sheet,The Cam is gonna Be a Comp Cams 294 XE series flat tappet-Comp Cams roller rockers-TrickFlow pushrods-Older Holley Street Dominator Intake manifold-My build differs-As Lingenfelter used a CompCams 252 H-Then a 305H-followed by a 288 Street Roller & a 296 Street Roller-The CompCams 294 Xtreme Energy Cam is a NEWER design with 250/256
[email protected] 588/593 Lift 110' lobe-2800-7000 RPM powerband-Lingenfelter also used a Holley Strip Dominator Intake manifold-then a Weiand Team G-I just so happen to have a "TeamG" intake laying around Just in case I have to push the power band up-My builder has done MANY 496 Builds-From what I was told it Should Be a HAND FULL with that M22 4 speed Im running-He warned me -that the Rear end in my Firebird WILL not LAST LONG with all the power going thru it-so In the future I will be upgrading to a Ford 9 incher-maybe a 12BOLT if I can score one for Cheap...
