----Ron,,,Terry never made or had those tires made. Those tires were a project that my boss Richard Buxbaum and a friend in North Carolina (an X-Goodyear employee) put together. My pal (who many of you know, Stretch) put the very first set on his 396/425 65 Vette.
----We took the first shipment at Classic Motors. The check for the bulk of the tires (5000 total is what my memory tells me, could be wrong) was sizeable and Richard decided to lay off a bunch on Terry as he had been pestering Richard to become involved. I wasnt privy to what was going on at T.Michaelis and dont want to disparage anybodys reputation but 2500 tires went away and were never paid for. So basicly every 7.75 Goodyear tire with a gold or red stripe that was sold was pretty much pure profit for those Ohio boys for a long time. Oh,,,The good old days!!!......Bill S

Mr Yenko

Oh yes that is a tough tire to find. I remember helping Kenny Pascoe put a set together for his Burnished brown L78 Camaro. It was worth it in the end, they really sent that car to another level.

Dad's 67 had a set of those - and he sold his spare set 5-6 years ago at the Jacob's swap meet after he sold the car - they still brought pretty good money.

The summer I worked for Richard (1986?) I remember going over to a storage unit off of Cass Avenue north of 63rd Street to pick something up and being in awe when the door opened and it was chuck full of the vintage Goodyears and other types of original vintage tires. Not sure if they were repros or originals back then but it was neat to see.

Sorry for the hijack Brent!

Some day it would be great to see all these COPO cars lined up at MCACN in their 'as raced' clothes. I for one would much rather see that then a line of stock COPOs. No offense to any COPO owner but this was what these cars were built for and it brings back the memories of a very important time in my life. Thanks for restoring it back to it's glory days.

Wow, just found and read this thread end to end.

As good as it gets!!

If I had a chance to buy this car restored or as raced I wouldn't even consider the stock one:-)

The wrap is probably the best idea, and bolt on's.

Just read the whole thread- Great Score Brent! car painted black and they didnt paint the grill? Were you able to get the cowl hood and endura back from the bodyshop?
my .02c on the resto- I'd have to go showroom I agree with PoohBah Charley on the race trim although with that race paint you would ONLY need some bell bottoms to be that baddest thing on 2 legs!

I'd bet there are quite a few guys who would pay an unmentionable price for a near new set of those Firestone small letter wide ovals.

----Reminds me of a Boston Autorama a long time ago. We were unloading next to a guy with a black 64 fuelie coupe with knock-offs. His trailer had another set of knock-offs and also had a beautiful black paint job. Made quite an impression, as this was long before there were reproduction KOs available. The whole rig could have been shown as is!......Bill S

I agree with Mike. Although I do not have that date; the stamp looks legit.
