Have you TT experts seen that "T" in "TR" misplaced like that before? Not suggesting a problem - just learning.

BIG congrats!!!
HO is icing!.
Resto or sale, how can it get any more beautiful than as this car now sits w/ exposed details/heater box off/sanded stampings etc?.
Especially considering situations of late, has the time come where it's best to do a tidy job exposing details and leave critical areas 'as uncovered' aside from maybe a blast of clear where necessary?.

Did you get the car certified Brent? It's worth the $$ before you start dismantling it. Without ownership history from new - I'd get all of the expert documentation that you can get. Everything looks great so far, but after resto most of the unaltered evidence is gone. Just a suggestion.

I know every thing iam showing here can be bought or done to to look like a COPO but what i havent told you which doesnt prove anything .I know the people that have owned it and iam back to around 73 or 74 era to present it was a local car to me . It was sitting in a barn witch the guy wasnt selling it and i went to him from word of mouth. He didnt have a clue to what the tell tail signs were to make a COPO people told him over the years it mite have been .To Him it was a old race car. He bought it in 81 it was a race car then. The guy who bought it in 73 74 time when i talked to him he had no clue what a copo was he told me he just wanted a 69 camaro to race . The car was painted black with a 427 tunnel ram and a grumpy lump scoop 12 bolt and a m22 cragars and Mh race masters on the back with a lakewood bar going 10 30s and wasnt tub yet it was off the road by then being raced he tub it OLD SCHOOL if that what you called he did to it .I saw pics from him to show this stuff trying to get copys still at the end of the day doesnt prove a thing .

My non A/C 325 horse 4 speed 69 Camaro has the UY radiator in it. It is L.A. built and sold new in Arizona. I assumed it was ordered with the heavy duty cooling option. The UY code is on the build sheet that I removed from the gas tank in about 1993. Clint

Mark, there were ALLOT of Camars built during 05A, those week #'s were not re set like clock work. I think I read 05A was way more than 7 days ?
Brent
Interesting that my black car is BDY 322433 and my vin# is only 27 after yours, most likely built very close together on the same shift.
Also note your bdy # 292934 is quit a bit lower than mine.
only thing that means is your body shell may have spent some time in the body bank with others waiting for all the good stuff to show up, and/or they were batched with other COPO's

They were just a few cars apart on the line.
The low body # means the order was accepted but didn't get scheduled (and hence built) until several weeks later.

In may they reconfigured the Norwood plant for the Firebird production that started in the second half of May.
That is also the reason for the introduction of the D80 code on the trimtags, to separate the trunklids due to different holes for the spoilers. D80 made sure that a Camaro got a Camaro trunklid.
BTW there are no (or very few) 05B cars. And that might be the reason we see so many 05A cars.

The rear is not orginal to the car .When i talked to the owner who had it in 78 he said he pulled the 12bolt out and tub it and put a dana in it. How does it work. My body number seems very early before the build date on the trim tag. By looking at other trim tags .Is it because it was order early to be built then wait for copo parts then go on the line to be done.If so my x44 plain jane car didnt even come with a radio. It was as base it could get so i dont know why it would be waiting for anything .I know Mike talked about it because of his car body number is diffrent than mine .Does this put the nail in the coffin for being a copo car

Brent
Again, it is very common to see a larger spread in BDY #" vs Vin#'s when compared to other COPO Camaros. It was common practice to hold a batch of these special cars in the body bank untill all the special components were on hand to run these cars with any hold up in production.
They may have been waiting on BE's, double COPO stuff, or even built up 427's ?? These were little used items when comapred to the rest of the Camaro production.
If you study the spread between BDY#'s and Vin#'s on your average 6 cyl/ and or low HP V8 cars, which there were hundreds built each day, there is not that large of a diff in the spread of the two #'s. Basically because the components to built these cars were more common to these basic drivers and the inventory levels were high enough based on the larger number of orders place by dealers to keep the lines running on schedule.

When I had bought my COPO years ago someone told me that the X44D80 combination on the trimtag was a good indicator (not proof) of a 427 Camaro, just because so few base-cars were ordered with the rear spoiler.
If your trunklid is original to the car (check the datecode on it and if it has the right color underneath)and if the spoiler was put on at the factory (check the holes), then that would be a good indicator of 427 car. Especially combined with the hole in the firewall for the wiring to a Special Ducted Hood.
But still not proof of course.
William

Once again, the body number has NOTHING to do with production scheduling. It was generated when the dealer order was accepted by Central Office.
Fisher Body released orders [generating the tag] as instructed by Chevrolet Production Control. It is a fundamental production control practice to material assure any order before releasing it. There is no way Chevrolet would have instructed Fisher to release COPO orders for production if it did not have the parts to complete them. Those orders would not be released to Fisher until ALL components were available.
The body bank was a queue to arrange them by option content for line balancing-not a place to store orders that could not be built.
There is wide variation in body number relative to VIN-Van Nuys Camaro assembly was on the same system. A typical production week at Norwood was 4,560 cars. The spread from the highest to the lowest body number for any VIN range is commonly many times that number. There were around 7,000 VINs with 04L/05A tags at Norwood but the body number range is over 47,000.
Another production control practice is to never starve the line. Fisher often released more orders than could be built in any given week. That's why some weeks are missing. ZL-1s #3-#39 all have 02D tags but were built the first two weeks of March.

Non spoiler car trunk springs the same size. Did you sell you're car as a Copo car. Who certified yours thanks Brent
COPO_Anders
02-14-2012, 06:53 PM
I sold mine as a COPO based on the original engine in it. Plus original Special Ducted Hood, untouched firewall, dual exhaust hanger plate in the left rear wheelhousing, X44D80 with different size springs to the original trunklid. And the BE-rearend had a builddate close to the day the car was built.
I really don΄t think it would pay off to hire someone to authenticate it since all the guys on this board does it for free !

Just to tune this up a bit:
A few COPOs were built with the M20 wide-ratio 4-speed.
Virtually all had 4.10:1 BE axles. One is documented as special ordered with COPO 9511 4.56:1. COPOs built through June '69 do not list positration on their docs as it was initially part of the COPO. On later builds G80 & G84 became required options for $56.90 & $2.15 and included HD cooling.
Only COPOs 9560 & 9561 could be ordered with COPO 9737. It included the 140 mph speedo, 15 x 7 rally wheels, HD front stabilizer bar. Around June '69 the price was increased to include a factory tach.

The way this whole thread and car has progressed so far is very cool and we all look forward to what's uncovered next!.
A picture of the car in DynaMotion paint will be too cool also have those original fenders been off yet?.

I talked to glenn smith today he owned the 66 427 vette .He told me that Dynamotion was conected to Motion Performce in Ny they bought all the parts and work with Joe on stuff .He gave me names of owners of the busness They moved to silverspring md they had two shops going the search goes <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif on
I find it very interesting that your Copo was a shop car used to advertize Dynamotion and then having a Motion connection.
When do you think they had the car lettered? I'm pretty sure Joel told me he was unaware of the 427 COPO program. Do you think Dymamotion knew and ordered a car and raced it from new?
You said you know the history till 1974. I would lean towards thinking there may have been moe than 1 additional owner fomr 1969 till 1974. I would love to know if how early Dynomotion was involved wiht the car- but probably not as much as you Brent. Good Luck!

A lot would depend on whether you are building it for resale or for your collection. With this car it is a part of it's history especially considering how little it lived in stock form. Tough decision either way.

I would love to see the 6 cylinder front coils and the old Lakewood slapper bars with the shackle kit and Cragars. Tach, oil and temp gauge with a fuel gauge mounted on the cowl outside. Hurst flower decals, the lace or swirl paint and the T-3's painted an amber or blue color. Don't need a roll bar, fuel cell or trunk mounted battery for this deal. 10" M+H slicks. YEAAAA!

03-05-2012, 12:22 AM
VERY VERY COOL!!! Actually, I think I remember the car as a bracket racer in it's Burgundy and "ELECTRIC" '80s stripe.
On a second note, I also own a car that raced as a brand new car. My car was raced and sponsored by a new Oldsmobile dealership and then sold off of their used car lot in February 1971. While my car was not a life-long dedicated racecar like yours, it did lead a very sheltered life with only about 10k street miles. I have it re-lettered and set up as the "1969-1970" style F/S---basically the car is original and un-restored. It was just the cover and feature car of the Feb.2012 Muscle Car Review. What I'm getting at here is this:
If your intentions are to sell the car as a profit-maker, then in my opinion, a showroom-stock restoration might make more sense. However, if you are like me (and a lot of other old racers) and the car is more of a passion, and the money REALLY doesn't matter, then I would applaud you for making that car appear (and maybe even run) as it did in 1969 and 1970. True, racecars have a smaller market, but the players in that arena are a little different breed.
DW31S
03-05-2012, 01:55 AM
I went back and looked at some of those old pics. How about the guy pouring water at Capitol? Defintely a No-No today. And old-time Cecil County. Looks like that front end was set up a "little loose"--wonder if they had the front wheels staggered? That was a trick from that era---probably a Jack Arnew front suspension.
GREAT FIND!!!!!!!!!!!! Bring it to York in July---I can assure you someone there will know that car. Have you had Jerry MacNeish look at it, or have you called him yet? And maybe you said already, but where was that car sold? Ourisman Chevrolet?

I think Brent knows what to do! He is usually trying to talk other owners out of restoring a "real" racecar back to showroom. If he has to chnage the paint job back to original sometime down the road Brent can handle that himself. Done deal for him IMO it will be as a racecar I bet! Maybe set us like a 1969 A/Stocker. BRENT,BRENT,BRENT,BRENT YEAAA!

Not that my opinion counts, but I dig it like this the best. Still retains it's mostly original look, yet has one of it's first racing looks and decals. And the decals could be easily removable, as well as the slicks, etc....
Unreal

I'm with you, but I think the lettering is shoe polish. To me, that reeks of low budget racing. I would either do it in shoe polish, or have decals made to replicate shoe polish.
