is it safe to assume that this is also used to seal the kick panels?

Correct. Question, did you not do all of this when you restored your '70.....as its the same procedure.

didnt take the A/C box off the 70 all it needed was cleaned up.

For kick panels use a product called Duct Seal made by Ideal Industries and available at most large box hardware stores. There are other manufacturers such GB who make it as well. It is used by electricians and plumbers to seal pipes or electrical where the enter or exit a dwelling. Looks and works just like the original seal applied to kick panels.

It comes in a brick and you just use a razor blade to cut it to size, roll it into a rope between your hands and apply it to the kick panel.

Dan, now that I think about it I didnt have to take the kick panels out either on the 70.

Thanks Buddy and Rick!

Get the 8578 -- much easier to work with ... just peel off the strip you need. Store in a large zip-lock bag and it will last forever. Available at any good autobody supply ... The TAZ

The 8578 works great for heater boxes but I would NOT use it on kick panels for many reasons, expensive being just one of them since you would have to ball up MANY strings to fill in the large gap. One note to pass on, DO NOT put it on the heater box cover until you are SURE you are done and will not remove it. It makes a horrible mess if you ever have to remove the part as it sticks to everything and turns into a very stringy mess upon removal. Ask me how I know.....

Use the Duct seal as Rick suggested for the kick panels, it's a no brainer, Home depot has it, ask if you do not see it, it's there.
