I have had an interest in Yenko's and other supercars since I attended the first Super Chevy Sunday in Indy in the early 80's. There were several 69 Yenko Camaros in attendance and I've been interested in them ever since. I enjoy taking pictures when I'm at shows, but I didn't go digital until 2008. I thought I would share with you guys the photos I've taken of Supercars since then. I know most of the cars are real, documented cars, but there are a few I'm not sure about. The owners insisted they were real, but I've never seen the VIN's listed as being known legit cars. I won't list the owners names or the state they're from, but I'll add any info the owners told me about the cars or info that was presented on signboards with the cars. I'll try to add a car every couple of days as I have time. Hopefully you guys enjoy the photos.

#1. This is a well known car that was sold new at Van T. Chevrolet in Mission KS. This was the October 2006 Feature Car on this site and it was also featured in Super Chevy in August of 2004. I believe when this car was first restored it didn't have the original engine, but it has since been found and I believe installed in the car.

#2. This is an early X66 car that was sold new at Gates Chevrolet in Mishawaka, IN. This is a mostly original paint car although the engine compartment appears to have been restored. I believe this is the car that Bill Hunter bought new, blew the engine, returned to the dealership, and exchanged for his Daytona Yellow car. Please correct me if I am wrong about that.

#3. I'm not sure if this is a real COPO car or not. The VIN is N672561 and the body number is NOR104398. The interior code is 711 and the paint code is 69 69 and it is an 08C X44 car with the X11 trim added. This is a 4 speed car with a console. I first saw this car at the Goodguys Show in Columbus in 2006. I do not know of any other documented COPO's with VIN's or body numbers close to this one so I'm guessing it's clone. If anyone knows anything about this car fill free to add what you know.

#4. This is the second to last 69 Yenko Camaro built and it was sold through Muscatel in Fargo North Dakota. According to the signboard this is a numbers matching car that was restored by Chuck Huber.

#5. This COPO Camaro was the 2008 Hemmings Goodguys Muscle Car of the Year and it won gold at the Camaro Nationals that year as well. The VIN is N665210 and it as an automatic car with a column shifter. It was advertised as a numbers matching car with a POP. I do not know which dealer it was sold from, but it was purchased out of KY in the mid 90's.

#6. This is a GM of Canada documented COPO that was sold new at Central Chevrolet/Oldsmobile LTD. in London ON. It has an M21 and is a radio delete car. It was featured in Camaro Performers a few years ago and it was in Art of the Muscle Car. It also won gold at the Chevy Vettefest in 2006. I took these pictures at Muscle Car City in Punta Gorda FL. The collection is in an old Walmart store. There are over 250 GM muscle cars on display. If you're ever in the area it's worth checking out.

#7. This COPO was sold new at Funston Chevrolet in Detroit MI. It was the September 2002 feature car on this site and it was featured in Chevrolet High Performance in the April 2004 issue. It has a 715 blue interior and it is an automatic car with a console. I believe the original engine exists, but it is currently running a ZL-1 and terrorizing the Factory Stock racing series. It has run as fast as 11.50's in Factory Stock trim.

X44 with the Endura bumper. Nice! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif
Why is the chin spoiler on there by itself? Are there two trunk lids for this car? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

I'm not sure what happened to the rear spoiler. Sometime between 2009 and 2012 the rear spoiler was taken off. I know the car was stolen and a ransom paid to get it back sometime between those years. They may have repainted it when they got it back and took the spoiler off for whatever reason.

#8. This Deuce was sold new at Mancuso in Skokie IL. This is the Nova that was sold on E-Bay several years ago. I believe they have the original window sticker for it. This is a 4 speed car and runs 12.70's in Factory Stock trim. I believe this Nova was repainted years ago, but the stripes were just reapplied recently.

#9. This is the only known non Yenko COPO Nova. It is Canadian documented and was sold new at Central Chevrolet in London ON. It has the original engine and rear end and runs 12.80's in Factory Stock trim. It was featured in the May 2005 issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines and the February 1994 and June 2008 issues of Muscle Car Review.

#11. This is ZL-1 #47 and order number 42. It was sold new in Minnesota. It is an automatic car and it does not have it's original engine. The current owner bought it back in the mid 80's. It is an original sheet metal car that was restored in the 80's. The owner said years ago he was thinking about trading this car to Ed Cuneen for a tubbed ZL-1 that Ed had but decided to keep this car.

#12. This COPO Camaro is the highest VIN car currently in the registry. It is documented with some original dealer paperwork and was sold new at Ferris Chevrolet in New Philadelphia OH. It is a 4 speed car and has the original engine and rear end. It has a code 715 blue interior and has around 20K miles on it. The owner has the full ownership history on the car.

#13. This Camaro is 660826 on the registry and is supposedly certified by Jerry M. It has a later Yenko ZL-1 block in it and it is a 4 speed car. From what I could gather Yenko cast these aluminum blocks from approximately 1975 to 1987. It has a 140 mph speedo but otherwise doesn't appear to be a 9737 car. I don't know who the original selling dealer is on this one. The closest order numbers are Malcom Konner cars that are about 100 digits away. If anybody knows more about this car feel free to add what you know.

#14. This is a Canadian documented COPO Camaro. The VIN is N661300 and the order number is 351473. This is a 21K mile automatic car and was advertised as being numbers matching. This is also an X44D80 car.

#15. This Yenko Camaro is N615382 and order number 219743. It is an 03B car that was sold new at Francis in Bridgeton MO. It was advertised as having just 5.5K miles. Unfortunately I did not take a picture of the trim tag, because it showed this car was an X66 car. It's my understanding that only 01B Yenkos were X66 cars and the 02D and later Yenkos were X44 and X11 cars. I'm assuming the tag is a reproduction since the order number is for an 03B Yenko. The tail panel was also blacked out on this car.

Cool car but what details of this VIN are noted here in the registry?
Sorry if incorrect but best clarify, is this not one of two cars known w/ the same VIN and if so which one is it?

This car was previously owned by Keith Hutson and was one of the five Yenko's he sold at Mecum in Chicago back in 2005. All 5 were bought by the same person and he has since sold off at least 4 of them. These pictures were taken at the Auburn Fall Auction in 2011. This car was also at a number of Mecum auctions in 2013 and I believe it sold at Mecum Dallas. I do not know if the hidden VIN's match the VIN tag. With the amount of money this car supposedly sold for, I would hope the hidden VIN's matched. I've heard there was an ex race car whose hidden VIN's matched this VIN, but I don't know if that is true.

The Yellow Douglass Yenko on the Cover of &quot;Top Muscle&quot; was exquisitely restored by SCW.

If memory serves the other Yellow Douglass Yenko shown in the pics above was found for sale by Bob Trez in the Milwaukee News Paper. It was very original when found, including the original engine. Mike G had it restored quite a while ago and it is now owned by another member.

Does anyone have any pictures of douglas yenkos with yenko stripes from when they were new? I have never seen a vintage picture of a day1 douglas yenko.

The reason I ask was because I was at chevy vettefest once with my black camaro L78, and there was a yellow copo right across the isle from me, one of the best restored cars I have ever seen, probably not as good as SCW, but I thought it was nice. I though it was maybe a yellow douglas car. Anyways, while I was standing there during the show, a guy came up with a vintage picture of a yellow camaro with a black hockey stripe, and showed it to the owner of that yellow car. I was not sure if it was that car from back in the day, as I could not get into the conversation the owner was having with that person that had the picture. But I always wondered.

The car in the pictures I posted is 648934 and according to Stefano's post above Mike G. had it restored when he owned it. I didn't want to make any members here mad by posting the VIN's of their cars, but since the VIN's are in the registry I guess it doesn't really matter.

It was sold as a used car at I believe Lee Slaughter Auto Sales in DE. It then sat outside for years at Midway Transmission in Centreville MD before being rescued. It does not have the original engine and I'm not sure about the rest of the drivetrain.

#50. This Camaro is N635549 and is the only known Daytona Yellow COPO with a white interior. This was advertised as a numbers matching car with a M20 transmission. It has GM of Canada Documentation and is Certified by J.M. I'm not sure of the selling dealer, but it was supposedly sold new in Edmonton Alberta Canada.

#54. This is ZL-1 #35. It was sold new at Sutliff in Harrisburg PA. I believe the spoilers and Rally wheels were dealer added before the car was sold. This car has around 8K miles on it and as far as I know does not have the original engine. It was restored back in the mid 80's by Rusty Symmes. He used to race it in the pure stock drags sponsored by Muscle Car Review and it ran in the 12's. It was featured in the August 1985 issue of Muscle Car Review. The heater delete was done when the car was restored.

I have fond memories of this Nova from the last SCR at Gateway before it closed. It made one pass, with me driving in the other lane. I was so stoked about coming from behind and beating it. You can imagine my disappointment when I found out that BHK was coasting past the finish line due to a catastrophic mechanical failure. He did things to that tranny that I still can't speak about in mixed company. Let's just say that too much torque had something to do with it. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/sick.gif

I remembered &quot;LEGEND&quot; on the advetisement and assumed it was Vintage Certification/Survivor vintage Legend.

&quot; We understand not every original car is 100% untouched, and we offer four levels of certification, based on the originality of the Vehicle.
Vintage Legend Certifications levels are divided into four divisions:
Vintage Legend - Cars that are 80%-90% unrestored in all reference areas.&quot;

Wrong again.

I took these pics at Doug's request the night before it went to Carlyle. I think fondly about this car as Doug sold me (for a <span style="text-decoration: underline">very</span> reasonable price) the complete exhaust system that was on the car when he bought it. Vintage Hooker's, 3&quot; pipes and Dynomax cans. It was a real comedy of errors. I had everything all planned out, and nothing went according to plan. By the time I got done, I could have bought a brand new system and had it installed for the same money. Live and learn. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

#75. This Yenko Camaro is an 01B X66 car that was sold new at Stauffer Chevrolet in Scranton PA. It is order number 202499 and to my knowledge it is one of two known LeMans Blue X66 Yenkos. This car has been with the same owner for over 30 years. He bought it as a basket case with a small block in it not knowing it was a Yenko and turned it into a street machine. He then had it at a car show and someone with a real Hugger Orange Yenko Camaro was also there and looked at his car and told him it was a Yenko Camaro. The owner then got in touch with Ed C. and had this car certified. Once he was sure it was a real Yenko he repainted it LeMans Blue, added the stripes and emblems and found a 1969 512 block for it. It still has the BE rear end in it which he believes is the original. I remember seeing this car at shows 20 plus years ago, but hadn't seen it recently. He showed up with it at the last cruise in of the summer with it freshly repainted after being in storage for close to 20 years. I know there are a lot of small details that aren't correct, but it's a real Yenko and he drives it.

My COPO Chevelle came from Lyle. I had heard that a ZL-1 did as well. Cool to see this car.

I have been in contact with one of the salesman from the day. I should ask him about this one, probably a memorable car going through the dealership. He did not remember my car; he said the dealership had 40 high perf cars on the lot at any given time. They were catering to the guys coming home from Vietnam that had some money in their pockets and wanted to go fast.

#99. This is a Nickey/Thomas 427 transplant 67 Camaro SS. It was originally a 4K L78 car. I believe it still has the original block that Bill Thomas transplanted into it. It was the November 2000 Supercar feature on this site when it was owned by Mike Guarise. I believe this one is also now in Texas with the 2 Yenkos I showed previously.

This car was sold new at Dale Chevrolet in Waukesha WI. It is VIN N650526. During restoration a 140 mph speedo was added along with a chambered exhaust system. It also has a rear spoiler, but no front spoiler. Am I correct in understanding that with the D80 you got both a front and rear spoiler and not just a rear spoiler?

One thing though.....what gives with over 90% of the ZL2 fresh air hooded cars from top restorers and expert car enthusiasts doing with the air cleaner seals upside down, inside out or Both ???
The small end lip goes on the a-c base, glued down, Not Up to seal the hood !!!!
These look hideous applied wrong and OPENS a Can of Worms on the Rest of these &quot;Expert High Dollar&quot; Restorations...... geez, ...... I've been wanting to comment on this since the first one popped up......and now, there's double digit cars done this way as seen here.

All of these dark green cars just look so much better than they did back in the 70's and 80's when they were just dated old cars. Everyone wanted to change the green ones to any color but green, but now I'd love to own a dark green one.

Mark, you hit the nail right on the head.

I visited Carl Dwiggins in 1987 at his invite and had the pleasure of a guided tour, show n tell for the better part of the day.... of his massive inventory of muscle car Chevys.
I say inventory as opposed to collection as he was a dealer, a restorer broker who sold his cars on high market and was solely profit oriented.

With that said, every orange black, red, yellow ,blue or silver color changed car was either one of the 2 shades of green (frost &amp; fathom) along with burnished brown or any other undesirable colors of that period.
Verbatim, his motto was ,green &amp; brown make great primer for red, orange, black, yellow and LeMans Blue !
A used car seller of &quot;eyeball&quot; and &quot;eye candy&quot;
He also had Great insight into the volume of green cars available to buy for less money because of the colors weak market.and also acquired better cars because of it.
Another major theme he had was buying badly rusted or wrecked desirable cars that were fairly complete and rebody them in restoration. (keep in mind in the early to mid 80's the reproduction sheet metal was mostly limited and or junk compated to todays parts and clean cars or rollers were easily attainable at modest prices.) He neved shyed away in stating openly which ones were rebodied or sectioned)
He spoke of &quot;saving them&quot; from total demise in the crusher or parts dismantling.
By the way, he had well over 150 units in various states...80+ totally rotisserie restored or original pedigrees. The others were in various shops, storage or nearing completion.

Resale Red was the theme for decades before him and now, decades later....just as Black isn't a Color, its a &quot;Life Style&quot;...

I've got a soft spot for green cars, as I learned to drive in a '69 Malibu 2-dr hardtop, frost green, med greed interior, dark green top.

Frost green is a great color on the right car (as is fathom Green).

Back then, everyone wanted to junk the green interior for black. Same is true with almost any other color interior. Today I find myself appreciating the gold/green/blue, etc interior cars more. Black vinyl is boring.

They have to be turned inside out, before they can be installed upside down too, like on the fathom green car.
I call them inside/upsides.

If I recall correctly GM was selling an NOS version that the original vendor had assembled wrong - the ends were glued together backwards so that the inner lip was actually on the outside and vice versa. I had one of them on my Z11 years ago and could not get it to install properly in the right-side-up position. I tried cutting it at the glue seam and reglueing it the other way but it was all kinked up due to the age of the rubber. I ended up using the original seal.

KevinW
12-20-2014, 11:45 AM
The seals pictured need to be spayed outward (blue tape work well to hold it) until the seal holds the shape properly, but they are not upside down (Charley's pics are upside down). The upside down seals really bug me, enough that I wrote instructions how to fix them 5 years ago <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif I have even help people fix them at car shows <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/laugh.gif

thanks for chiming in Kevin.
Taping the seal is a good idea as I have done it with good results on NOS &amp; reproduction seals.
The sharp wrinkles then can be further removed by placing it in the sun all day or two till they reform to a full circle.
Some of the above cars (reviewing the many pages) do have the seals inside out ,upside down and most just upside down as noted by Kevin in the Team Camaro thread, with unopened lips.....as recently, I reinstalled 2 seals on friends cars the same way,by opening the lip from the seal.

Still...... need to see -3- in a row correct ones to cheer on. before &quot;I go away&quot;. lol

#105. This is the first COPO 9561 Camaro built and it is an 01B X22 car with a 713 black houndstooth interior. It was sold new at Courtesy Chevrolet in Sebring OH. It was advertised as a numbers matching car with 21K miles and having it's original window sticker and POP. I first saw this car at the Chevy Vette Fest in 2003 when the Adcock brothers owned it. I have the order number as NOR221873 which is later than the first 120 Yenko's, but it was produced before any of them were.
