Thanks Scott and lots more saved to post whenever I get the chance.
I love the Cherokee too and look forward to your thread on the other site, please hook us up here w/ a link.
I think I know which pic you mean but don't see it on page #35 so will try searching it out again later?
Here's a few Cherokee pics I posted in a different past thread, others here somewhere too.
:beers:

Thanks! I will link it here when I finish. I'm in the research mode right now. Here's the info. I just searched "Camaro Cherokee" and it was one of the first to come up.

Fantastic!!

Thanks Pete, I appreciate it.

By the way, the Camaro next to the Cherokee is the yellow Californian that is most usually seen on a trailer connected to the modified yellow pickup known as the Golden Cameo.

Wonderful pics and articles. Thanks for posting, Andy. There were two Cherokees. One with red interior and one with black interior. The black interior car, which still exists, was built 06B and could not have been at the NY Auto Show in April '67.

I saw the black interior car here at the Pavs in Scottsdale a few years ago. I think it was going to cross the block at one of the auctions at that time. I have pictures of it somewhere but can't find them at the moment.

The newspaper date of January 5th was prior to when the Funston car was built so it can't be that car, but the top does appear to be the same pattern.

For sure the exact pattern ModTop material also close placement but slightly different comparing the two cars.
I posted some Barris ModTop ads a year or two back but have more I'll dig out and post.
Barris was the originator also his group the installers of the first ModTops on Camaros, correct?
Back to the Auto show stuff, here's a few more ads also some w/ giveaway Camaros too.

I hope the owner of the Mod Top 1967 Camaro RS/SS that I saw at the 2015 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals has seen these cool new ads and articles that you have unearthed. If anyone knows the owner maybe they can point him to this thread.

According to the following thread he is the original owner!: http://www.camaros.net/forums/11-bench-racing/398537-original-owners.html It shows on his original invoice that he purchased the car on September 2, 1967 from Van Chevrolet in Quincy, Illinois. Quincy is on the Western edge of Illinois, so it is doubtful that his car was one of the four at Kelly Chevrolet in Greenwood, IN, which is near Indianapolis, unless the dealers made a trade for some reason. Could it have been the other one out of five east of the Rocky Mountains mentioned in the little article from the Franklin, IN newspaper???

Great ads, thank you.

Does anyone know which dealer pushed the SS427 '67 Chevelles? I remember seeing a number of them advertised in the early 80's and most seemed to be located in the Carolinas. I know they weren't factory, but they were awesome.

How would a Mod Top be signified on the TT?

PeteLeathersac
02-28-2018, 03:30 PM

It wouldn't be Marl as they were all done after build @ dealer before delivery or later by Barris or others.
I have a bunch o' ModTop also other ads saved and will try to post 'em tonight.

Pete,

You asked me to provide the link to my thread on 1967 Auto Show Camaros when I was finished. It is now posted at the Camaro Research Group and it is titled "The 1967 Camaro as Seen at Auto Shows & Unique Promotional Exhibits in 1966/1967" Thanks again for your contributions.

I totally understand your frustration with paywalls on some research sites. It's worth checking out historical phone directories for area codes from that era. Exciting finds, especially the Koenick. Keep the hunting alive, Jon

This is an ad for one of my cars. It was for sale at Central Chevrolet in Fremont, CA. How do I know it is my car? Because it has the actual VIN of the car in the ad. 124378N 445453. This was sent to me by a Camaro Website Member. Pretty Cool! ... Danny

Awesome updates also great to see this thread rockin’ again!
Lots more saved in my old confuser I’ll dig up and post later but here’s a few more now including some Dick Harrell cars.
If anyone wants to try searching something, please speak up w/ details including vehicle + likely dates and location also any known phone #’s and we’ll give it a go. Only a tiny percentage of old newspapers have been scanned so please understand we’re at the mercy of what has but that said, lots of old Ads have matched up w/ Member cars earlier in this thread also others too so definitely worth a whirl.
