Is 2 Vettes having been made correct. Heres the reason I am asking. In the March 1970 issue of Hot Rod Mag, in the "people write to Pennzoil" page a guy writes
"Ive got a Vette Sport Coupe with a 427 cubic inch (ZL-1) engine and a 4:11 posi-traction rear end and I want to get it blueprinted. Just what is a blue-print job. Also , should I use special racing oil? If so, what brand and weight.

J.P.W. Ellinwood, Kansas>>>>>>>

We all know what the oil recommendation would have to be but I was just courious on the number of them made and if anyone can remember back in the day if this car really was around?

There were only 2 ordered with the option. Apparently (only from what I've read), the engine was available over the counter for dealer installation. So it's unknown how many were dealer installed.

I thought I read that there were around 7 made. Chevrolet's records show 2 I believe, but I remember reading somewhere that 7 were known. And I think I remember reading that one of the cars was used as a hill climb racer like Pikes Peak or something. I'm sure it's all misinformation, but that's what I've read.

There are only two factory built new with engine installed ZL1 Corvettes. Others have been L88 cars with ZL1 engine installed in their place. There was a post on this site about the orange/black 1969 ZL1 roadster that probably started as an L88.

There used to be a corvette dealer called capital corvette here in wisconsin that had a ZL1 vette claiming to be one of two built. Dealer was owned by dave larson, but got shut down by the feds for illegal activites. Roger

Their is 2 real 1969 ZL1 Corvettes that are said to have been made. (Their may have been three but one was destroyed by GM?) One is owned by a member this board "supercars" (Kevin S) which is the white one and the other is owned by Roger Judski of Rogers Corvette Center in Orlando Fla. and his is the Yellow one that you always see in pictures and such with the unique stripe.

All the cars from capital corvette were hauled to illinois and auctioned by mecum auction. This was years ago, and i had a car lost in that legal mess. But insurance payed. Be careful when selling a vehicle on consignment. Roger
