1971 Chevelle SS Modified by Motion Performance:

Today I went to TNTGOTCARS.com to look and view the 1971 Chevelle Motion Conversion car they have. This is the same car that was at the Atlantic City, NJ Auction. The owner was a nice man. He let me climb all over the car, getting numbers, taking pictures. He took me for a ride, opened and closed the hood a few times, revved the motor to let the cowl open and close. He said he talked to Joel Rosen and Marty Shorr and the car is scheduled to me trucked to Florida for a complete inspection by Joel sometime in the next week or so. The owner faxed Joel compies of the documentation and Joel stated it is 100% real. Marty wants to use the car in the book he is writing about Motion Performance. He has more authentic documentation then I could take pictures of. Joel said the hand writing is his wife's writing. He also has a factory build sheet where it should be noted that the car is an authentic SS/M40 car.

Some oddities about the car:

-Radio, Tach, Cig. Lighter, Temp Gauge, Heater Controls, Windshield Wipers, WW nozzles do not work.

-The car interior and trunk leak pretty good. The dealer owner washed the car before I arrived and the car had a puddle in the trunk and on the rubber carpet mats.

-The car has plastic inner fender. I did not know if this was special for Chevelles or not, but there was no sign of this change on the Motion documentation. This change would make as the battery was relocated to the trunk.

-Standard wear and tear throughout the car includes a cracked dash pad, sun burnt vinyl top, and a ripped drivers seat.

The dealer owner took me for a ride. The car pulls straight on acceleration but upon deceleration the car pulls to the left which means the passenger side breaks are going. I was surprised. Even with Hook Super Comp Headers the car is very quiet! It must have been a sleeper back in the day. I took 60 pictures, here are a select few.

Really? I have all of them right in front of me?

It should also be known that the car was repainted down the middle of the car. New stripes too. But the original acrylic lacquer is still on the sides of the car (and showing its age).

Dan thats awesome you got up close with this Chevelle. My jaw dropped when this car was first made public. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif It's the only B/M '71 I've seen yet. Hopefully it will find a good home with someone who'll bring it to the Reunions and stretch it's legs on the strip! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

It should be noted that this car was modified quite a few years after the original purchase. Dan, do you recall the dates from the Motion invoice. I was thinking 1980 or so?

Yes, just prior to 1980 @ 3/78 and again in '86.

I think TNT wants 165k for this 71 Motion Chevelle.

That's the same price I was quoted. It's a cool car and if delivered new with those mods, well worth the price IMO. The later conversion date is not as appealing to me, but still a special car.

All the cars over there at TNT look nice. They want high end prices that some just aren't worth. They are the ones who sold Funkmaster Flex the #8 Starsky and Hutch car used on the old TV show for $8K. The car was a complete mess for that kinda cash. They were the ones who had the 69 pace car for $35K. Seemed way to high for a car that needed work. Dan did you a close look at any of the camaros they had over there? Was there any POP with the Chevelle? - Rob

Rob-- To very blunt with you, they did not have a car that original and besides this Chevelle, they did not have a single car worth looking at.

There was no p-o-p with the Chevelle. Just build sheet/motion docs.

Hey Rob, your in New Rochelle, hop on the Hutch to Exit 7, hang a right at the light, go over a bridge, continue until you go under an over pass, and the place is on your right. I would bet its less than 10 minutes from you.

Dan, I go past TNT all the time when I have to take the mrs to her fathers house. They also have another lot about a block after you come over the bridge on the right hand side. They move alot of the cars that been there for awhile to make room for new ones coming in. They also have a spot down in Florida.

Dan, My '69 chevelle had plastic inner fenderwells (really a plastic mixed with fiberglas fibers, not like the reg. plastic repos of today)---I think it started in '69--guess it just keep going-----------

Which are lighter, the plastic or sheet metal inner fenders?

Some Chevelles were known to have been shipped with one of each.
