Just curious if anyone knows the history on this car. I have alittle interest in it, but heard through the rumor mill it is a re-body. Does anyone know the 100% deal on this car?

Cortez Silver '69 Camaro C.O.P.O.
Is this the one listed at Corvette Mike's 6-8 mos. ago? This car sits too low. Stance makes such a difference.

It was sold by a member a couple years ago. Disclosed and priced as a suspected rebody.

Suspected rebody? Do you know what made him think that any concrete evidence, was the hidden vin ever looked at? Just checking to see if its worth looking at. I know I should be talking myself out it but a RS COPO would be nice to have.

"I bought this car as an investment and am anxious to sell, as it does not fit in with my other vehicles."
I agree with Pete a High dollar car being advertised as a quick sale. I smell something fishy. Someone in CA needs to check it out and post the findings.

I owned the car for many years until I sold it in 04. The car has great options and really good docs, GM Canada. The question is how much of the original car is still there. I have spoken with this owner,I think, in the past. He bought the car as is just as I did. I bought the car from a Frank M in Toronto. Whatever was done to the car was most likely done by him. At least he took credit for the restoration. I made many attempts to contact him with questions later on with no luck.

Wouldn't it be easy to check the hidden VIN's to see if they match? The heater core one wouldn't be "easy" to check but the cowl should be. Obviously those sections of metal could have been cut out of the original body and welded into the new body if it is in fact a rebody. Has anyone ever checked the hidden VIN's on this car?

I think Charlie hit on a very big point in all of this. Disclosure - I do not care who does what with their own property but when it comes time to selling said property, you better be honest and tell the truth. When I see someone trying to pass off a cloned, stamped or rebodied car as an original, that is fraud and I have a problem with that.

Didn't Thomas say that the donor car was the RS Z28 from Dunnville Ontario! It was without question a 4 speed and the RS Copo has a M40. The floor, vin under the heater box and the wiper area has to be suspect. This trail is going to lead right back to the restorer in Canada if the Vin shows that infact it is the Dunnville Donor. I am outraged that someone did this to a rare 69 Z28.

Like I said in another post I owned the RS/Z28 in 1971 and sold it to someone in Dunnville Ontario in around 1974. I remember being parked beside Mr Motions blue LS6 Chevelle at Cayuga Dragway. If the talk is true of what happened to the Z I guess my hunt is over. I was hoping that one day I could find that car and buy it back and park it beside my triple black LS6. Who would ever think that a Le Mans blue on blue RS/Z28 factory cowl hood, tint, console gauges, custom interior, M22, chambered,410 gear ratio would be used as a donor.

When I was warned that this car might be a rebody I was told that a Z was used as a donor car. I don't believe that is the case. The tunnel is not cut for a stick.

The owner has updated the auction somewhat. He is neither confirming nor denying that it has been rebodied. At least he is honest enough to post all the questions and also point out that he has reeceived a lot of inquiries regarding whether or not the car has been re-bodied. He does not appear to me to be hiding anything.

There was a silver COPO that hit a tree in the Niagara Falls or the Niagara on the Lake area and the driver was killed. The car surfaced a number of years later as a rebody...is this supposed to be that car?

PHIL S states that he bought this car in Toronto from a Frank M. Friends of mine that know him said to me yesterday that he is very talented in building Camaro's and Chevelle's They also said that a few years back he was selling a black LS6 Chevelle Atlanta built with no paper work with an October build date on the trim tag.

Sounds like the same Frank M. in Toronto that I bought my LS6 from. He only had it a short time and basically bought it to flip it. He did do some final assembly as the car was part way through a freshen up resto at the time he purchased it.
So you have are saying you own an LS-6 with an October build date? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I sold my blue RS/Z28 to a Frank M. in 2004 who then restored it and resold it, that car was on Ebay last week and had to end early due to pressures from members of this site to properly represent the car.

Where did you come up with that? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
My LS6 is a 12E Leeds built car.
Look at the post by Rick Cell above yours. He was saying the guy had a supposedly LS-6 built in Oct and then you state that you bought an LS-6 from the guy. Perhaps a mis-read the two posts, but it appeared to be the same car, hence my question and confusion. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Ah, got it. I can see how you might make that association. I only meant that he's apparently flipped a few. Mine is Cortez Silver, has GM Canada docs and owner history back to 1972. Still searching for that elusive original owner! The car was sold originally in Toronto, then went to Thunder Bay with the second owner where it stayed until finding it's way back to Toronto in 1999. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Original VIN stamped M22. Motor was replaced under warranty in '73 with a correct CE LS6. The car was in the hands of the second owner at that time. According to him it was burning oil, the dealer wanted to rebuild it but he demanded a new motor. Apparently they were able to find one. It came with a 5yr/50,000mi. warranty if you can believe that! He probably thought he got a great deal at the time! It must have been strong because it ran 12.8 second quarter miles at Minnesota Dragway in '74-'75.

Hi: in 1978 I looked at buying that LS6 Silver Chevelle, instead I purchased a 1969 gold Copo Camaro. These 2 cars raced at Jane and Finch (Toronto). I was told that the Camaro lost because the Chevelle was running slicks.

SilverLS6 - I am glad to see all the work I put into gathering the history along with the testimonials were passed on after I sold it. The car bounced around a bit in Thunder Bay during it's hey day. The one unique fact I found very interesting was that it seemed to be sold whenever the current owner at that time had a piece of property that he wanted to purchase. It's not the first time we have all seen "Must sell, buying a house".
In regards to the motor, it should be a good working piece, I spent a full day with it on the dyno after I had it rebuilt.

This is true. The car ran 9.5" bias ply slicks, ladder bars and headers back then from what I can gather. Sounds like an excuse as to the reason the Camaro lost. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I know it was a LONG time ago but you wouldn't happen to remember anything else of significance about the Chevelle would you? Anything that could help build more history would be appreciated.

Kevin,
I like how you are trying to document as much history as possible about the car. That's the secret to developing pedigree. To me, it is what makes a car more desireable and legit.

Jane and Finch
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jane and Finch is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, centred around the intersection of two arterial roads, Jane Street and Finch Avenue West. The area is roughly bounded by Highway 400 to the west, Black Creek to the east, Sheppard Avenue West to the south, and Shoreham Drive or Steeles Avenue West to the north. The abundance of high-rise apartment towers in this area make it one of Toronto's most densely populated neighbourhoods.
Black Creek Pioneer Village and the main campus of York University are immediately east of the neighbourhood and are northeast of the intersection.
The Jane and Finch area is widely reputed to be Toronto's most dangerous and economically depressed neighbourhood. Long considered to be a "social morass in which violent drug dealers and gang members terrorize low-income families and new immigrants in rundown highrises", the Jane-Finch corridor is also one of Toronto's most culturally diverse areas, home to people from over 80 different countries. Indeed, the Jane and Finch area is a popular residential choice for many new immigrants to Canada because rents tend to be fairly low.
Besides these populations concentrated in the area's apartment buildings and rental townhouses, the area also includes sections of single-family homes, often duplexes, and individually-owned condominium townhouses. These sections are decidedly more upper working class or even middle class, and have historically been identified significantly with a northward extension of Toronto's Italian-Canadian clusters, which have since spread still further north into newer and wealthier suburbs north of Steeles in York Region, notably the city of Vaughan.
