Here goes the stupid question of the day. I am Just trying to clear something up between a few friends once and for all.
What is the correct terminology for a Super Sport with the Rally Sport option? I hear people calling them RS/SS and SS/RS. I know a Z28 w/ Rally Sport Option is a RS/Z28 so I'm assuming a Super Sport with the Rally Sport option is an RS/SS. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

The one I did up ten years ago and kept for about three years was always referred to by me as "RS/SS".

Of course, as you know, we Canucks always say or pronounce things a little different http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I agree with you Don. RS/SS

Technically the SS option should proseed the RS option. So SS/RS is technically correct, but I like RS/SS.

I've always referred to them as a Z/28 w/RS option,and SS/RS.

I vote RS/SS simply because of how Chevrolet marketed the "SS" Camaro in '67. My '67 RS/SS was badged "SS350" on the grill and horn cover so it would make more sense to say RS/SS350 than SS350/RS.

I always believed it was SS/RS. SS was more of a model, the RS more of a trim package. Plus, nomenclature shows SS supercedes RS.

SS took precedence in the badging (I.E. fenders/steering wheel). I'd say SS/RS.

That is the conventional wisdom regarding why the SS or Z28 should come first.

I think RS/SS sounds much more appealing. Besides, its alphabetical order.

I've always thought of it in a decending order of importance. .

The SS or Z-28 options are first being an 'absolute necessity' and the RS is really an 'un-necessary' glitz option....so SS/RS & Z-28/RS! .
Tomato..tomatto, potato..potatto....as long as the SS is there, call it what you like and http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif ! .

I look at this way. When we say the name(s), we say
Rally SS or Rally Z/28, not SS Rally or Z/28 rally.

RS/SS & R/Z-28 seem to flow better. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's my thinking as well. Since they are all RPO's it doesn't really matter.

Sounds like this is the general concensus and it is a matter of personal preference.

Someone please refresh my memory. If RPO Z/27 designates Super Sport package what is the RPO designation for the Rally Sport package?

Definitely RS/SS. I don't think I've ever heard anyone call one an SS/RS til today...SS/RS? nope, that doesn't even sound right.

Be careful as SS RPO's change in different years and models. .
Isn't RS Z-22....for '69 anyway? .

It is definitely a Rally Sport Super Sport and a Rally Sport Z/28, as opposed to a standard Super Sport, or just Z/28. The Rally option comes first to designate over the base model. It is descibing what Super Sport or Z/28 it is.

I just took some pics from Chevy's 69 Sport Car Department brochure, and the caption show's SS/RS. I'll post pics a little later.

One of my favorite garage wall art items is an ad for the 1968 Chevy line up. It is titled “Some cars fake it These cars make it”.
It shows a Red 1968,,,396 equiped,,,hidden headlight beauty in the foreground. At the top of the ad the cars are described; ‘Camaro SS with ralley sport equipment’
Hence SS/RS
Take the 1968 Camaro sales brocure,,Again on the cover Red 396,,Hidden headlight car, described as:’ Camaro SS Sport Coupe with ralley sport equipment and vinyl roof you can order’.
Thus SS/RS
Looking at the Camaro option Packages described within,,Camaro SS Package description, they lead the potential purchaser to load up the car with options,,Re,,,”What’s that you say? You’d like an SS with all the features that come on a ralley sport (concealed headlights and the like). Easiest thing in the world. Just specify both. It’s as easy as that”.
SS/RS
Either way you slice it a very lucky person is one who has one (or two) by either name

Just do not get me started on “ Cowl induction”
AKA…”For more power, a special new intake hood is available. We call it Super Scoop. It opens on acceleration, ramming huge gulps of air to the engine”

I actually think it depends on what part of the U.S. or Canada you are from. I have always put the performance RPO in front the appearance RPO. Here is E. Washington, I have never heard of an RS/SS for sale, just an SS/RS. Same goes for a Z/RS. However, when it comes to a COPO with the RS RPO, I use RS/COPO. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

There you go, RS/COPO so it should also be RS/SS and RS/Z28. I prefer the RS listed first since it's a lower order option compared to the performance option. But what about the 96 Camaro Z28/SS? Or was that an SS/Z28? It was a 1 year only listing and kind of ruins the argument of the performance option being listed first or second. It really does come down to personal preference and that's probably why so many people jumped in on this post. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
