Ken,
Call me if you ever need moral support while working on the "big car". http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Looks great! It is really nice to work on cars like this when they only need a little help. Looks like it will be a fairly easy project.

Ken,
Consider calling a friend of mine, Don Bock here in NJ. He owns a buisness called Passenger Car Supply and his specialty is '65-'72 big cars. He also used to work for CARS way back when they were just in the upolstery business. Donny knows where to find rare materials that aren't listed in anyone's catalog. He also works for American Auto Wire (which used to be Factory Fit, and Parker Wireworks before that). He can solve ANY wiring issue on these big cars.
I recommened him highly. 856-467-7966. You'll most likely get his machine during the day when he's at his regular job.
Ask Donny about Just Dashes. Perhaps he can work a better turn-around time for you.
Hope you make out ok. The car looks great!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Have bought a few of the very rare parts (4spd. boot and and ring from him). Great guy. Cars Inc. here in Mich. is reproducing Biscayne interiors...from what I have seen they look great.Send a PM with your ph.# I'll call you on my dime to yak about these big cars. I think that radio is a dealer installed item. All factory radios were Delco. Motorola made exact dup;icates for aftermarket installation. A local radio shop here had a bunch of them he sold a while back. Looked exactly like the originals but said Motorola on the face plate, just like yours. Frank

Maybe so. I mean, not many women would tolerate a carb sitting on the kitchen counter. (Although I've seen stranger things than that on Annie's table, and counter,........ and washer,.........and oven! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif) But I have a feeling the "Training" may cross over. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif What little bit I've been around Paulette, it appears there's a ton of mutual respect. Ken,
Radios were one of the items (like OSRV mirrors) that many dealers installed themselves to make a little more profit than if the car was RPO'd with a radio. Sometimes the dealer would use the Delco unit too because he could buy it through service parts, then charge the customer the full list. HE made a larger margin on it that way than if he put it on the car order.
There are a couple ways to tell if the radio was a factory installation or dealer. The factory die punched the hole for the antenna, where the dealer used a hole saw. Also, rear antennas were installed before the trunk spatter paint, so a factory installation would have some overspray on the base of the mast and the bracket that held it to the inner wheelhouse lip in the trunk.

Awesome car. My father had a 66 SS impala 427/425 number matching car. Sold 5 years ago now I do believe. If you scroll down alittle in this past there are a few pictures of it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat...true#Post159870 (http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB1&Number=159870&Search page=1&Main=159727&Words=+A468BU&topic=&Search=tru e#Post159870)
I do believe he has some parts for this sort of car still. I remember seeing some Gm boxes in the garage that pertained to this car. Maybe a tissue dispenser and some other small things.

This car in any colour including just primer will look great. My last remaining 66 impala is Madeira Maroon so my vote does not count. However the 66 I received the most complements/ comments on over the years was a 66 biscayne with a fawn interior and I think the paint was called tropic turquoise.

12-03-2006, 01:26 AM
I found the car in Alberta, car is originally from saskatchewan where it supposedly was a police car. Don't know for sure. The car does have some strange factory looking plugs in the dash where lights would go. Also appears the doors have been painted blue at one time. I have the GM of Canada docs and they say nothing of the 140 mph speedo. 2qwik2c.

That's on the dash pad itself? Very weird. You would expect plugs in the A-pillars for spotlights but you'd think a bigass light on the dash would be right in your field of vision! What's the story behind the car-how did you find it?
2qwik2c
12-03-2006, 01:54 AM
Yes its on the dash pad itself. Plugs on both sides of the dash pad(each corner). The car was advertised locally. Was for sale for a few months. Decided to call one day and see if it was still available. I went and looked at it and bought it. Nearly fell of the chair when I seen the ad because its such a rare car being produced here in Canada. 2qwik2c.

Yes, I would have jumped on it too. Are you planning a full stock resto? I'm trying to dig up any drag racing history on my car so I have an excuse to restore it as a racecar instead of a stocker. There's evidence of a few wicked driveshaft explosions underneath, and a set of homemade tow tabs on the front, and an ancient Chevrolet-Flint employee parking sticker on the mirror, so I am hoping to hear some cool stories about its past.

12-03-2006, 03:11 AM
Andrew those dash plugs might be coffee cup holders( just kidding). We parted out or seen parted quite a few 67 & 68 chev cop cars over the years in this end of canada. We would make a point to chase them down for the big blocks. All had 140 speedo, th400 autos, posi and big blocks , one was a l-72. F-41 agree was on most as was ps, pw disc brakes, rally wheels with the moon caps, especially the 68's.All had the door handles and window winders removed in the back. All you could see where the light(s) mounted on the roof and where some had spot lights on the pillar and indication that some sort of protection was between the front and the back seats. You could also see where the communication system was fitted under the dash.
However, none were 2 door posts. I cannot see a officer being comfortable doing his job trying to get a person in the back seat of a 2 door post, Unless it was a chiefs car only or used unmarked for radar traps. But the doors were different colors so it was marked. Fire Dept maybe??
Just guessing but the colour of the car alone is not common for a cop car.Someone must have gm 67 and 68 cop car literature to clear this up for you. Is that tach not 68??
After 68 in our neck of the woods the big dodges took over so we lost interest.
Love to know what those plugs were really for.
2qwik2c
12-03-2006, 03:23 AM
Another thing I just remembered but don't have pics of is the trunk light. Its huge with a glass lense??? No real signs of any other holes other than those plugged in the dash. Not sure what year the tach is?? I just wish it was a 4spd car. oh well. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The bracket was probably cut. GM didn't make one like that. The bracket in the 2nd pic is correct. My favorite GM mole can't find any documentation to support that short design. Cutting it like that weakens the support for the alternator. Things twist under load. That's why they changed it from the 1965 design. You don't want to have belts flying around at 7 grand! Since we're picking, the upper heater hose nipple on the intake isn't factory correct in the 1st pic. 2nd pic (Jody's) is factory correct. I guess Jody or previous owner added the engine chrome.

kwhizz it looks like you know what you are doing here, just a heads up on the speedo cable. if you decide to go with the original type speedo cable that enters the trans on passenger side, don't forget to drill the 1" hole below the accel linkage. there is also a dimple on the passenger side of tunnel for the cable bracket to drill. also i found that i could not just change the tailshaft housing on mine because the speedo drive gear on the M-21 main shaft was not in the same place. not sure if that applies to all M-21 trans? dennis

Also........A "STRICTLY" Hypothetical situation....Let's say that in this "Hypothetical" situation....you were working in your garage spraying Chassis Black on glass beaded cleaned parts and you had two Rattle cans........the first can is now empty and you reach for the second can and it falls onto the floor......when it hits the floor the plastic cap pop's off and the spray nozzle breaks off just below the surface so you can't get a pair of pliers on the broken stem to pull it out.......I would highly recommend that you do "Not" get a very small screwdriver and try to pick the broken part out so you could replace the broken one with the empty can's nozzle.....I "Hear" Bad things could happen.........But.......I'm sure that nobody here would be "Stupid" enough to try something like that......."Right"

Ken,
If there was slight surface rust in the nook and crannies, like between spot welded floor supports, I'd suggest spraying a rust converter, like Permatex Extend in all those areas. It will convert the iron oxide into iron sulfate (black), which will never again allow moisture or oxygen to reach the hidden metal. You can paint right over top of it, no prep.

Actually......What happened was that I decided to remove the upper and lower control arms on the rear end (one side at a time) to glass bead and paint them.......I removed the lower arm first after jacking up the frame with a bottle jack on the lift to remove just about all the spring tension (the plan almost worked) , when I took out the second bolt from the lower arm, the spring still had a slight amount of tension and the Spring/arm assy wedged itself against the rear end housing.....I pushed it with my hand (Stupid) instead of a screwdriver and there was just enough tension on the arm that when I pushed it out of the way it caught my hand between the arm and rear end housing....Damm that hurt..... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif but the arms sure look good now....

How about the color? And don`t say you want to surprise us http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

The Paint shop is Pulera Collision Center in Kenosha, Randy (the Owner) is a clean "Freak".......even though they clean every day, every Saturday he has a crew come in and wash the place down to get rid of all the dust in the corners........the offices are done up in 50's decor....the whole complex is only two years old.......this is where the Gold car was painted.....
Now , as to color............I'm 90% sure that when the paint comes out of the gun it will probably be "White"

Hey Ken,
Sounds like it's going to be a cool car. We are in the process of restoring a White/red 65 Biscyane 2 door 409/400 right now. We are planning to paint it around the end of February and have it all done around May also. The 409 is all done and I just tore the M21 apart today for rebuilding. I'll look forward to seeing your car when it is done! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Ken,
Educated us on big cars. I know early Vettes (and would assume other late 50's early 60's cars) did not have paint codes. So the original color of the car is typically only found in the hidden areas like under the carpet and in the seat retainers (etc). Are full-size cars the same way, where there is no paint code? Or do you just want to paint it white verses the "original" color?
Nice work. Good luck!
kwhizz
01-07-2007, 06:06 AM
Actually........The guy that owned the car was a "Moron".....when he listed it on eBay, he had it listed as being a Monte Carlo and being White (actually it's Beige) in color.....the pictures that he posted along with the ad were probably a couple of years old.........(my fault for not going to look at it)..........it's a super solid car and I guess I saved it from the guy that had it as I don't think he was a "Car" guy........ When the car showed up, the inside of the car was filled with "Mold" and mechanically and electrically there were some "Issues"......the car was stored outside and was a very nice car at one time, but this guy didn't have a clue..........
He never even bothered to clean it........shipped it filthy dirty....The bottom line is......I'll be very happy with it when it's finished to my "Standards".......But if I had bought it with the intentions of just driving it,I would have been very dis-appointed.......
I've been very "Lucky" (read "Solid") buying cars off eBay, but I have always bought knowing that I was going go thru anything I bought and paid accordingly.....again, it's my Winter therapy.......with a car at the end.....LOL

Dan.......Actually the paint code for the car is "V" which is Cameo Beige.........I just don't like the car that color.......I'm leaning towards White or possibly Sandalwood,or ??????????
Doing the work is easier that picking a color........

Ken.....you really need to paint it what ever color you like and makes you happy. If you like pink, paint it pink, you like sandlewood, paint it sandlewood.
