Im not trying to be mean but in your ad you say its wearing its original ss badges but in the pics you can clearly see they are crooked and in the wrong spots. How do you know its a real 375 horse car? I would need to see some solid proof before bidding. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

The badges are in the factory holes on the cars original body panels. So its IMPOSSIBLE to put them in the "Wrong Spots!"

I'm with Don - there is severe misalignment of the fender emblems. This is just not seen in factory-installed pieces since the holes were made from a template. If the restorers simply reinstalled the emblems in the existing holes in these fenders, then these fenders were replaced on the car at some point.

You never know, maybe the assembly line emblem hole-driller guy had a few too many at lunch that day? Keep in mind that while we restore them to Pebble Beach levels of detail today, Chevrolets have always been built as quickly and as cheaply as possible and attention to detail on the assembly line was/is not always Job One.

The fender emblems on our '69 are above the top of the wheel well lip. Baltimore car. The fender either went into a fixture that drilled the holes or a jig clamped to the fender and the holes were drilled manually. May have been pierced. Any way you look at it, you aren't going to get the holes an inch or two out of position no matter what the operator had for lunch: http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gifBuried in the GM manuals are dimensions for where these holes are supposed to be. When I bought our COPO Chevelle, I had the dealer install the SS emblems with the Corvette 427 number underneath. They put everything way low. Dumb on their part and dumber on my part for getting it done. Kids will be kids. These cars are 38 years old and unless you have owned it from new, there is no real way of knowing what they have gone through. In salt country, the front fenders had rust holes behind the front wheel in three years. Been there. An awful lot of these cars would have had their fenders repaired or replaced long ago. Might have been what happened with this car. The purists will want to change 4-5 things under the hood. The expensive part being the exhaust manifolds and smog system.

I would think that the holes would be punched in a die during the manufacturing process.......

Usually parts would be pierced. One example of drilling, was when we built the Dually trucks a few years ago. The side of the box was cut out with a plasma cutter then the box went into a station where the sides were drilled for the attaching clips. If I get the time, I can dig out a pair of original used SS396 fenders that I have and give the holes a close look. Piercing and drilling don't look the same.

The auction has ended on Ebay. I have JUST acquired a correct L78, 396 V8, 375 Horse correct from carb to pan excluding smog. Here are some photos. I will relist on Ebay if not sold here in the next few days. I will let it go for $43,500 with BOTH ENGINES!! I have pictured everything to alleviate a ton of questions. I think this is a great bargain and would like to offer it here on the SYC site first. Thanks for looking. Contact

I think several of us are still wondering what evidence was found showing this to be an L78 car, particularly after your request for information on how to tell if it was an L78 or not.
It looks like (most) everyone is trying more than usual to be respectful, but your silence on this question is deafening....please share this revelation you had.

We have been in contact with previous owners. I also have been told "true or not" the "L" on the cowl tag is a indicator? Maybe someone can comment on that? We are gaining more facts daily. How many are left with original body panels restored to this level? Its a nice, straight, clean and tight car! Add an original L78 factory CE block and you have a nice package! All info has been posted here. Cant be any more straight forward than that! Thanks.

From what I've read on the Chevelle site...the "L" *may* be an indicator that it's actually a real SS. I haven't read anything about the "L" meaning that it's a 375HP car...just what I've heard (and read) that's all http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

OK I have tryed not say anything about this car because I have not seen it in person, but I can't understand how you keep saying how great the resto on this car is????? I can see from the picture that there is ALOT WRONG with the under side of the car let alone all the things that are wrong with other parts of the cars. Look I'm not trying to take away from the car I'm sure it's a nice car, but please stop talking about the level of this resto. And just remeber you are trying to sell a car that is VERY hard to tell what it was with out some org paper work or build sheet and we all know that (all thow some have been found) they are hard to come by.

No buildsheet,Is there a vin on the trans to tell if its at least a real 4 speed car? What about the rear code? Original? Why the hell do people on this site insist on pointing out every little thing that is wrong with someones car if it doesnt meet their standards? Ive posted ads on here and experienced the same bull from the "trolls" as you called them! If you dont like a car or it doesnt meet your criteria then dont buy it. Why try and make someone feel like their car is a piece of garbage just because your noses are too high up in the air. Ive owned several 69 chevelles and looked at hundreds of chevelles and other cars over the years and this one seems pretty nice to me..not concours quality but still pretty nice. Move on to a car thats flawless and pull out your big wads of cash if thats what you want to buy..stop the bashing, it just makes you look like asses. Peace!

When a Car is perported to be something "special" then it should be.
It is a Very Nice resto. Looks clean.
But facts are facts.
It has Not got the "Original" Engine, it has a 70, and a Spare, Not Matching Numbers 375hp engine. Neither one is
the Motor that came from the factory in this car.
Strike One on the value as an L-78.
Emblems, Yep. Sloppy. Could be factory, they were building Profits and Transportation. Not "Showpieces"
We do That to them. We turn them into "perfect" showpieces.
Price seems Fair for a SS 396, but I would rather have a low horsepower 396 that matched then a high horsepower that came out of ????
If you are going to advertise something as "Something" it's just Proper to make sure it really is something.
Good Luck selling.
I think the Members here are just trying to keep everyone honest. They want to make sure, and they have a significant amount of knowledge here, that what is said, is "Correct".
After all, it is the members site and thier reputation that is at stake.

I think that some people do relish the thought of cutting up other people's cars. We get it with our cars quite often. Other's are just trying to warn prospective buyers of problems with a given vehicle. With all the very clever scamming going on, buyers need all the help they can get. Not many buyers have any where the knowledge that is available on this site. The con artists would love to have these helpful guys muzzled. With the economy slowing down, the prices will drop to the point where people will just start driving and enjoying their cars. We do. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

More than anything, it's the voice of the marketplace speaking. For both people with '69s for sale, it's probably frustrating because you're going to be upside-down soon in regards to what you both have in the cars. The market is way off, and you're stuck holding the bag. Hey, that's the risk; it happens with stocks, business opportunities, and loans to friends and family-- Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Drive 'em and enjoy them, rather than trying to substantiate each's worth, and you'll be much happier.
In regards to the SS emblems on the green one-- There's no way the car left the dealer's lot like that. And, if the car was restored, why on Earth would you not re-align the emblems? No offense, but small things like that are killers when it comes to selling, because in order to move those emblems, you risk having to paint the fender, which means a possible blending issue, etc...
Just my $.00000002. I fully expect a flaming, so commence!

Lets see you use this site exclusively for its classified section (21 posts). Because no one respond to a car your peddling, you post this:
"Offers..anybody...helloooooooooooooooooooooooooo?"
Then some Mossport post this providing his opinion of why, which is certainly appropriate:
"I would imagine the color change is a set back for many here... regardless, nice car"
Then you post GSXRAY:
"I dont think the color change is the reason im not getting any serious offers. Lots of nice musclecars have had color changes. If you want a concourse correct car that is flawless you know the price would be at least $10-15k more than im asking. Ive sold many nice cars with color changes. Thanks for the analysis of why it hasnt sold yet though. id imagine its because the musclecar market is a bit slow right now and THERE OFTEN ARENT MANY SERIOUS BUYERS THESE TYPES OF BOARD EITHER. Trying to avoid Evilbay.........."
With comments like the above its no wonder you didn't get any positive responses. This board board provides a service to all. If a car for sale is questionable (I am not speaking about any specific car) then it will be questioned. Yes comments may be critical so be it. The bottom line is if you are representing a car for sale as X it better be X, and expect to answer critical questions.
I not on a high horse, we just don't need comments like yours on this site. Take your act elsewhere, it dosen't work here. What a nice guy you are... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Not directed at GSXRAY specifically but to all non paying members overall. Why is it that we continue to have discussions surrounding the for sale adds (that are free to members as well as non members I might add......) and there continues to be abuse of the use of this site? I agree that many cars are picked apart on this site but on the other hand, this site also brings a huge quantity of qualified buyers to these people and their adds. If people don't like the way things run in the for sale section, then go somewhere else and sell your product, it is that simple. Some of you have a real issue with parting with the $20-25 membership fee that helps this club stay afloat and lets you post your adds for free but then complain when someone makes a statement.
I for one am getting REALLY tired of having people log on, sell their crap and move on never to be seen again or even so much as a "thank you" to the club or it's administrators for allowing them to use the site. Ironically, many members do post a "thank you" even though that is what their dues are helping pay for. Go figure. I pay my dues every year as well as make donations and go to many of the member's events to support them and their causes and it gets a little old when some of you non-members never bring anything to the party. Put up or shut up as they say. I think it is high time this club does something about this and make it mandatory to be a member to post an add or simply don't come here. Some are worried that many of the valuable parts will not be available if they stop posting them here. If they are not available here, they will still be available other places and can still be bought. I do not know why we continue to waste valuable space debating it.
I have placed two adds on other sites this past year, 1 for a 66 Ford F250 and one for some Impala parts. In both cases I joined the clubs I was posting the adds in out of pure respect and appreciation for the use of their sites. If $20 is going to break you then go to e-pay and pay more. Admins, please do something about this once and for all so we can go back to being a productive site. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Rick, while i agree in part to your statement i also think it benefits members here when there are good things to buy whether from a paid member or not. I do think if someone sells a few things or a major priced part or car thats different they should then join ,but i also think if people have fairly priced items to sell and have to sign up first to sell them,it hurts the buyers more than it helps the sellers. Id rather see the parts here, than go over to the other free listing sites to find them. Again, iof someone sells a major item or sells multiple pieces over time then they can contribute. I will also say if i buy a part/car at a nice price ill pay for that sellers membership if they dont themselves.

Alan, Nice price is defined by being lower priced than any other similar item for sale. Im under the others plus i feel having paperwork, high options, and the lowest original miles[9000] i should be priced higher. That being said,Im always open to discussion with good customers. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

GSXRAY...go elsewhere please...its guys like you that make us keep talking about Members Only for sale ads. If a car gets obvious weird stuff picked on...so be it. No one like to see bashing and every now and then we have to caution people to chill out with it.
