Any suggestions on air cleaner?
|
Don’t forget a Hurst Line Lock. Rob

The air shocks are already day2 LOL. there is nothing wrong with the air cleaner you have, or a fly eye is always cool. Always build your car for yourself, everyone has opinions and that what they are, especially mine. Ladder bars are usually Yellow, orange or silver.

If I was going to do a real day 2 car I'd replace the fan on the alternator, or just use an older alternator, use a dual point or Acell electronic distributor, or a Pertronix in an original distributor, with some older looking plug wires (no graphite core), older Edelbrock intake (C396) and a restored '70s Holley, older gauges and tach and some period correct wheels and tires. The parts that you have on there now are nice, but don't fit the look of day 2. Electric cut outs are not day 2, but again, they are nice.

It’s really a matter of personal taste. What do you want? Day 2 means just that. Find an old magizine or catalog from 1967-68 and get busy looking at what was availiable. Then the hunt begins.

Definitely the gauges. If you don't want to hunt down vintage stuff, Stewart Warner still makes the Green Line and Deluxe gauges they made back in the day.
As far as shifters go, none of the auto shifters on the market are era correct according to what I've been told, so if that's something you want to mess with, you're going to have to shell out some cash. I already love your car, but in Day 2 trim it'll be even better |
Have you thought of some period Cragars or maybe some aluminum slots? Bias ply tires are still Day 2 king. Some rear end cover, maybe an old ET one. My neighbor had a red '67 Chevelle with air shocks, 15x10 Cragar SS's with Pro Trac N50's, and a built 427 that used to rattle the windows in our house across the street when he started it up. Loved that car.

Thanks guys for all of the feed back and wisdom. I am looking into everything you've suggested. This car is going to look killer when done!

Been doing a lot of research and the plan is to paint the M/T covers black with polished fins, keep the current air cleaner at this time (would like to go with a fly eye at some point). I like the HEI and wires just for the ease of everything along with the performer intake and Holley 770 Street avenger carb. Looking for Lakewood traction bars and front tow tabs will paint them red to keep my black red theme going and get a set of cragar front runners. Paint or powder coat the headers red to match the wires and such under the hood. Also looking for a sun tach and 3 gage pod that's more vintage looking and ear correct. I like the shifter I have but want to change the shift knob and boot if possible.
