70 Chevelle 12 Bolt Rear End CRW Code Market Value
Trying to find out a fair market value on a 70 12 bolt with a CRW code. Its drum to drum with original posi and gears. Its been in storage. Its a nice dry AZ. housing. Thanks, Larry

Around $3000

I think you may be a little low Matt. I sold a bare CRW housing 3 years ago for that exact same price and usually see them closer to $4500 today. If this rear is from Arizona and non pitted and dry it would be a STEAL at $3000.

Hello, thank-you both for your input. I will be posting it for sale and photos today. Took awhile to dig out. Its nice but not as nice as some I've seen from here. Larry

Re: 70 Chevelle 12 Bolt Rear End CRW Code Market Value
What is the date code on the axel? Does it still have the lipped drain bolt and original plastic posi placard? How are the brakes and are the shoes original. Those items can make all the difference.

How about the value of a CRV? Comparable?

Re: 70 Chevelle 12 Bolt Rear End CRW Code Market Value
The axle tube date is stamped CRW0331B2 and the one is upside down. Its cast date is C230.

CRV (3.31 gears) would be less desirable than CRW (4.10 gears).

Didn't answer the rest of the questions from SS427 earlier. It has the lipped drain plug but no posi tag. The metallic shoes are still on one side but are worn off on the other parts of them fell out when I removed the drum. It is missing the brass brake line block but everything else is there. Correct posi and gears are there.

Very good stamp. If the rest of the rear is in as good of shape as that tube appears it would be a very nice one to restore. The Depending on which plant this came from there may be very little paint on it and a lot of inspection marks such as blue and yellow. Now I wish I had told you it was only worth $1500. CRV rears are worth about $1000-1500 less than a comparable CRW 'in my opinion' and yes, all for a simple stamp not unlike the BE rears of the Camaro. I would post it on ebay and see what you can get for it. Very hard to come by item any more. I should have bought it! |

There is some yellow marks below where the pinion flange is.

Re: 70 Chevelle 12 Bolt Rear End CRW Code Market Value
Nice looking rear axle. A couple of small items appear incorrect but really no big deal. Doesn't have the correct pinion flange for a 4.10 rear, part # 9210 cast into the inner flange by the pinion nut is what it should have, and incorrect brake drum or drums? hard to tell from pictures. But like Rick said, nice clean housing. Would be an easy housing to restore.
Real early dated ring gear as well for a March of 70 dated unit. Overall a nice piece Larry! Chris |
Re: 70 Chevelle 12 Bolt Rear End CRW Code Market Value
It has the original e-brake lines on them and they look very restorable so that is a plus. If the original Delco Remy wheel cylinders are on it that is also a big plus as they too are getting hard to come by. It appears to have the wrong attaching bolts so I am assuming the cylinders have been replaced. The drivers side drum also looks to be an incorrect replacement so that too will hurt a little as will the brake assemblies. Lastly, the pinion flange has been replaced for some odd reason. You will need to find the correct 9210 pinion flange. As it sits you are getting closer to Matt's original $3000 plus estimate.
Edit: Some repeated comments as I was typing while Chris posted. |
Re: 70 Chevelle 12 Bolt Rear End CRW Code Market Value
I appreciate the feedback. There are two different drums on it not sure which is correct if any. I'm sure like most it led a hard life. Looks to have come from somewhere else before settling in AZ based on the housing. I agree with your 3K estimate. Thanks, Larry
