Congrats to Ryan "Automotive Archaeologist" and Stefano Bimbi for the YouTube video discussing the newly found Jack Douglass Yenko Camaro.

Things like this are what keeps me coming back here over and over. It's awesome how somebody can just look at something and know exactly what it is. You can't buy that.

thats a nice find
one small detail I notice is the fender emblems are the chrome with black paint that came out about 1970 and were still available at Yenko into the 1980s the rear emblem looks correct for 1969 I don't know why they say in this video that the COPO 427 Camaros were not known to the dealers . The factory 427 Camaros were known to anyone who read car magazines. The L72 and ZL-1 Camaros were in magazines in 1969 and were raced in NHRA Super Stock and other classes in 1969. Jack Douglas could order COPO 427 Camaros, as many Chevy dealers did. The problem with Don Yenko occurred when Jack tried to buy a bunch of replacement Yenko emblems and stripes to put on cars that were not bought from Yenko. |
Car is at MCACN this weekend in the Nickey display. Very cool to check it out.

Here are some pics that Dru D took Friday night:

i was at all those street machine nationals. going to have to try to dig up some old pictures and see if i took any of this car. i dont remember seeing however.
|
I hope this car is not restored back to original.
|
It would be neat if the original motor and transmission was found. Didn’t listen to video so don’t know if they were both lost to racing.
|
Just watched the video. No mentioned of what happened to the original motor and transmission.

Wow. Does the owner know it’s out there?

I dunno, I was told by someone at the show who is very plugged in to the scene that the car has been sold.
I saw this pic on the web, shows that if someone wants to preserve the paint they are going to have to clear it or something. |

At least it wasn’t blown up in 1970 and melted down.
|
Loved seeing that car close up. Anyone here buy it?
|
We do not know what happened the original engine. It was purchased in the early 1980s as you see it. The original engine was missing in 1977 when purchased by the prior owner. We are still researching the car and have it documented back to 1977 in Crestwood Illinois. The car was stored in Elwood during the Winters. (As in Blues Brothers, Jake & Elwood).

Yeah I saw it, paint was cracking off in a bunch of spots.
Really glad to see it at MCACN, nice job to Ryan B, Stefano, the family for making it happen. |

Stefano sent me a few pictures to share. I really like this car and look forward to get it running as is and whatever the new owner has in store for the future.

Back in the day when I had a CB radio, that was my 'handle'
|
Which car had the CB?
|
CB was only in my daily driver pickup trucks.
