Anyone run the Pertonix stuff??

Have any of you tried the Pertonix Ignitor ě2î ignition system with there Flame Thrower
Coil and there 7mm stock appearing Flame Thrower plug wires, on your cars????.
The Ignitor 2 is supposed to adjust dwell above 3 grand and really work well. So they say at there shop, I am wanting to upgrade the ign system but look close to stock, any feedback would be appreciated, I have all the trick Mallory stuff new in the box but just cant bring myself to install it in the car, just donít look right.

Thnx Bud.

Bud,

Check the string under Pit Area called Pure Stock Drag Racing tips & tricks. It's discussed starting in about the third post...

There is some good reading in that link above.

Just make sure you get the "old" style, but I'm not for sure exactly which style the Pertronix II is...could I get some help here, Mo?

Not sure what the 2 is. The style we found to work best has the pickup that bolts to the underside of the rotor. The one that picks up off the lobes for the points had lots of starting problems.

Not sure what to make of the posts on it, not much detail, sounds like it is better than points, but has broken twice with one guy, that is a pain had that happen years ago with another car a few times before we figured out they were selling us the wrong points, That does not work well when the car is broke on a nice summer night and you are not at home! I checked out the crane site, anyone try that kit yet??

Bud.

The Pertronix units are definitely easier to manage than points, but they do have their weak points. The Crane unit looks nice, but I haven't tried it...although I know someone that was thinking about it! Maybe he'll chime in...

This topic was discused on a Mustang site several days ago. I think most people are overall happy with the Pertronix but there is enough of them conking out that most of even the die hard Pertronix people say to make sure your carry a spare set of points/screwdriver and feeler gauges in your trunk.

Re: Anyone run the Pertonix stuff??

I have used petronix in over a dozen cars and had no problemn. As was stated before get the second version that installs under the rotor (Ring and pick up) and make sure you have a full 12 volts to the positive side of the coil. My understanding is that the earlier version would cut ot and not the second.
