any thoughts or comments on running a pan evac on a very healthy sbc street motor.i'm running no pcv system and oil is soaking my 2 breathers on the valve covers.i was told that a pan-evac will help control /stop oil leaks and create lost h.p .i've gone completely over my motor and it's mechanically good.i'm just tired of the oil smell driping from the breathers onto the headers,due to not running a pcv system.will running a pan-evac be asking for more problems or am i ok with it [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif[/img]

It's an expensive way to solve the problem. I would make sure your valve covers have decent baffling around the breather holes, that might cure it.

I agree with Sam. I'll bet those valve covers are open right down to the rockers. One easy way to get around this is to put riser tubes on the breathers like the oil fill tubes on pre '69 small blocks. also make sure the PCV is hooked up. It helps oil leaks from the main seals also.

I think evac-u-pan would be ok, and shouldn't cause any problems, unless you have to pass a smog test every year. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif[/img]
with a standard PCV, the excess gases are sucked back into the intake, and re-burnt, with evac-u-pan, the gases are sucked right into the exhaust, where they might not be completely burt before being exhausted.
I had the same setup on a 340 Duster I had some yrs back.
I didn't have any problems, but afetr I sold the car, the guy I sold it to had to pass a smog test, and it failed.
I never did hear if he ever got it to pass, or what he had to do to get it to pass.
I simple PCV would be alot easier, and cheaper.

I run vac u pan on my ZL1 motor and it seems fine but you can also run a puke can with a breather on top fastened to your rad support plumbed to the valve cover, I've used 2 of these cans on a buds BBC pro street/strip chevelle that made a mess of oil on the valve covers and that cured the problem, but he drives like this ( see pics )

straight is good but how about hoping this car goes straight. 1.28 short time in the 60 ft and 9.50 @ 140 mph on the motor in gramas car. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif[/img]
