Shipping Question
 

I need to ship a set of 455 Olds heads from Tulsa, OK 74055 to Oakley, CA 94561. The crate weighs 130 lbs and is 21x17x10"... Does anyone know who would be the cheapest possible way of sending these?? I would send these things by pack-mule if it was cheap enough.

As funny as it might sound, Why not crate them seperate and send them by Greyhound. Unless they will take something that heavy.

I've been checking and found it to be cheaper to send them seperately anyhow https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Guess I'll go unscrew them from the 2x4s they're framed in and crate them individually with lighter wood.. Go buy some styro-foam and cut it in half and then hollow out the two halves and insert the head into the two peices. Get some long/thick Zip ties and secure the two halves together and then box them in a thick box. (use smaller thinner cardboard strips to lay under the Zip Ties so they dont dig into the foam and break it during shipping also) Would weigh less than wood and thus cheaper to ship. Oh if you go this route, Tape over any of the open ports to keep any foam from entering the ports.

Check out FedEx Ground...chances are they will be the cheapest, by far! I shipped a cast iron T10 4-speed across the country a few years back and it was only $60 or so. Must have weighed 110-120lb with the wooden crate I built around it.

I use Greyhound for all my sheetmetal, Forward Air for engine blocks and anything that may need a pallot, and UPS for heads, cranks and intakes, carbs etc. Found these were the best for what they did. Hope this helps. Sam
